Jay-Z’s rape accuser admits to inconsistencies in lawsuit as she recalls alleged ‘catastrophic’ incident
As someone who has dedicated my life to seeking justice and advocating for victims, I find myself deeply troubled by this recent development involving Sean Combs, also known as Puff Daddy or P. Diddy, and the allegations of sexual assault from over two decades ago.
The woman who accused Jay-Z of rape has acknowledged making errors in the lawsuit that claimed he and businessman Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs sexually assaulted her in 2000.
In early September, an individual using the pseudonym ‘Jane Doe’ alleged that Jay-Z and Combs had sexually assaulted her when she was 13 years old, during a party held after the MTV Video Music Awards in New York City.
55-year-old rap artist who’s known for his “Empire State of Mind” track, has firmly rejected and strongly criticized the accusations. He also called his lawyer, Tony Buzbee, a ‘despicable individual.’
On Friday, a 38-year-old woman, whose identity is still unknown, spoke to NBC News and admitted discrepancies within the lawsuit she submitted back in October.
Regarding the night of the supposed ‘disastrous incident‘, she confessed to the news station that she had made some errors.
Among the discrepancies, she mentioned that her father drove her home following the reported rape incident. Yet, he later declared that he cannot recall making such a trip.
Speaking with NBC News on Thursday, he mentioned that, considering their residence back then, the drive needed to collect his daughter would likely take approximately five hours.
That detail should be familiar to me, yet it isn’t. My schedule is quite busy these days, but honestly, such an important thing would usually stay with me.
Nevertheless, he asserted that he indeed picked her up during the night at some point, yet clarified to the media outlet that this incident took place within the local area.
According to what her father remembered from that evening, she maintained that he was indeed the one who had picked her up.
As an ardent admirer, let me express that there are numerous topics we often find ourselves debating fervently. These discussions revolve around something he apparently forgot from his New York days during that specific timeframe. Remarkably, this forgotten detail can at times ignite heated arguments within our home.
She shared with the evening news, “I was distressed, and the individual at the gas station clearly noticed this, and they allowed me to borrow their phone.
In a moment of need, I reached out to my dad, the one person I always rely on. I confessed to him that I had made a mistake and requested his help to get back home. As we traveled together, there was an unspoken understanding between us, with neither of us speaking about the details of my predicament. He didn’t need to ask questions; he simply provided the comfort and support I needed in that moment.
Attorney Tony Buzbee similarly shared his thoughts on the matter, confirming to NBC that they concur with his father’s statement that he does not recall the incident.
He mentioned that, given the personal difficulties he faced at that time, he couldn’t recall the events clearly, as they occurred over two decades ago.
It was suggested that there was a discrepancy in her statement, as she declared talking about an alleged sexual assault with another famous person at the event, yet this individual allegedly stated they weren’t in New York, where the party supposedly took place.
The spot the woman detailed, where she claimed the rape occurred, doesn’t align with the places where Jay-Z and Diddy were spotted in photos from that evening.
It’s unclear when the photos were snapped, or whether they visited another spot later that evening.
Additionally, she asserted that she conversed with Benji Madden during the event, however, a representative for the artist refutes this claim, stating that neither Benji nor his brother Joel attended the party as they were on tour in the Midwest instead.
According to the woman, she shared with NBC that the most straightforward aspects are what transpired to her and the path leading up to it. However, not every face from that incident is as distinct.
‘So I have made some mistakes,’ she admitted. ‘I may have made a mistake in identifying.’
The after-party for the 2000 VMAs took place at New York City’s Lotus nightclub, yet this venue doesn’t correspond with the location where the woman alleged the sexual assault happened.
‘I didn’t know exactly where we were going or even how long it took,’ she previously recalled.
Additionally, Buzbee clarified, ‘We’ve always tried to verify the accurate location. It was never implied that the location was the Lotus Club.’
The client has provided a precise and comprehensive account of the location she claims she was brought to, and she hasn’t mentioned it as the Lotus Club. Regarding any potential post-event gathering, we prefer not to conjecture since she hasn’t offered any information about it.
In October, a lawsuit was initiated against Combs, naming him as the defendant. On December 8th, that same lawsuit was refiled, this time adding Jay-Z (Shawn Corey Carter) as another defendant.
She explained to NBC News that her reason for going public was because she believes it’s important to stand up for what has transpired in one’s life.
“It’s crucial that you stand up for yourself and express your own needs. Never allow someone else’s actions to control or derail your life. I wish I could empower others to speak out, just as I did.
Following her disclosure about inaccuracies in the court case, Carter provided a statement to DailyMail.com.
Today’s exposé clearly demonstrates that the allegations made by lawyer Buzbee against me were unfounded, being primarily motivated by financial gain and a thirst for publicity.
He added, ‘This incident didn’t happen and yet he filed it in court and doubled down in the press. True Justice is coming. We fight FROM victory, not FOR victory. This was over before it began. This 1-800 lawyer doesn’t realize it yet, but, soon.’
As an over-the-moon fan, I can’t help but share my thoughts on the recent events unfolding. It’s truly astounding to witness a legal representative, like Alex Spiro, speak out against someone who would file such a severe allegation without thorough investigation, and then go on to fuel the flames by spreading this unfounded tale to the media.
He stated, “Today, we request the court to discard this baseless lawsuit, and we intend to address further disciplinary actions against Mr. Buzbee and the other attorneys who submitted the complaint.
Jay-Z’s attorney slammed the allegations a ‘sham’ in documents obtained by DailyMail.com.
In a letter to Honorable Judge Torres, his attorney wrote that, ‘Basic facts in her narrative — the who, what, when, and where — are wrong.
He stated that she asserts her father rescued her following the attack, but her father himself refutes this claim.
She asserted that she conversed with Benji Madden during the party, however, it was confirmed that he was on tour in the Midwest that evening. This discrepancy led her to acknowledge, “Perhaps I’ve made some errors. Maybe I misidentified someone at the party.
Jay-Z’s lawyer stated, ‘Under further questioning, the Defendant acknowledged that her information about crucial details, such as the time spent getting to the location and the duration of events, was merely a guess. She admits there isn’t a single witness over the past 24 years who can confirm these details.’
He declared that Buzbee lacks any factual foundation whatsoever and is retracting his complaint, which he had originally signed. He attributes these obvious contradictions to the case being passed on by another law firm, who supposedly reviewed the information before forwarding it.
The lawyer stated that the serious accusations against Mr. Carter are clearly untrue. Later, he pointed out that Buzbee did not perform a proper investigation into the facts prior to submitting the complaint.
He asked that Buzbee ‘withdraw’ the claims — which are harming ‘Mr. Carter, his family, his businesses, his employees, and his legacy.’
Additionally, it undermines the honesty of our legal system, hinders the quest for fairness, and muffles the cries of genuine victims.
The court case claimed that when she was 13 years old, the woman consumed a beverage at the VMAs afterparty which had a reddish-yellow color, tasted like a blend of orange juice, cranberry juice, and something sour, and shortly afterwards, she started feeling dizzy and faint, causing her to have to lie down.
She asserted that she found herself reclining in what seemed like an unused bedroom, and subsequently, Combs, Jay-Z, and a well-known figure identified as ‘Celebrity B’ walked into the room.
In the account provided in legal documents, it is stated that Defendant advanced towards the Plaintiff in a frenzied manner, seized her, and exclaimed, “It’s time to celebrate!
In the court case, the accuser claimed that Combs allegedly shoved her against a wall, causing her to stumble, followed by him forcefully pushing her onto the bed.
She asserted that Jay-Z forcibly removed her clothes, causing her confusion to escalate, and restrained her. Meanwhile, he allegedly committed sexual assault on her, all the while Combs and Celebrity B were present and observing.
Following his performance, Jay-Z moved away towards the wall. Then, according to the lawsuit, Combs approached and allegedly sexually assaulted the plaintiff in a manner that resembles rape, while both Carter and Celebrity B looked on.
In reference to legal documents, during the unfortunate event in 2000, I was not the one who, alongside Combs and Carter, engaged in the act of assaulting a minor. However, it was reported that many others, including myself, were present at the after-party yet failed to intervene and prevent this assault from occurring.
Jane Doe asserted that Carter was present alongside Combs on numerous occasions similar to those detailed here. In her opinion, both individuals involved should be held accountable for their actions.
In addition, the accuser claimed that Combs had attempted to make her perform oral sex. In response, she stood up swiftly and struck him, hitting him in the neck. This caused him to halt his advance.
According to the lawsuit, the person being accused is reportedly suffering from a severe depression that has significantly impacted all aspects of her life.
According to the lawsuit, she experiences both post-traumatic stress disorder and seizures triggered by stress and past traumas.
The person being accused often struggles with forming typical connections and tends to lead a secluded life, distancing themselves from the general populace.
In this case, the plaintiff is seeking undetermined compensation from the court, as the lawsuit was initiated under New York’s legislation for Protecting Victims of Gender-Motivated Violence.
This filing is the initial occasion where Buzbee has mentioned a public personality (other than Combs) in court documents.
The individual named Combs, currently detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, asserts his innocence regarding all accusations leveled against him.
In simpler terms, Jay-Z publicly refuted the accusations in an extensive message, also expressing deep sadness for those close to him.
After being mentioned in a lawsuit, I swiftly reunited with my loved ones shortly thereafter, finding myself in the spotlight at the premiere of “Mufasa: The Lion King” on Monday, an event graced by none other than my daughter Blue Ivy, who shines at age 12.
