Jay-Z’s Lawyer Claims Rape Allegation Is ‘Provably, Demonstrably False’
As a seasoned cinema devotee with a knack for sifting through the intricate tapestry of human drama and a penchant for discerning fact from fiction, I find myself deeply immersed in this latest unfolding chapter of the Jay-Z saga. The allegations against him are as complex and enigmatic as a Hitchcockian thriller, with its web of intrigue, shifting timelines, and a cast of characters that would make even Meryl Streep’s lips quiver in anticipation of the next revelation.
In New York, an attorney representing Jay-Z presented various pieces of evidence on Monday, which he claimed proved beyond doubt and demonstration that the accusation of rape made against him by an anonymous woman last week was untrue.
In a recent interview with NBC News, I’ve shared my account of an alleged incident that occurred back in 2000. I claimed that Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs had sexually assaulted me at an after-party following the MTV Music Awards, when I was just 13 years old. However, since then, I’ve admitted to some inconsistencies in my narrative.
At Roc Nation’s New York office, Jay-Z’s lawyer Alex Spiro stated that the woman’s allegation was based on an implausible sequence of events and a place that doesn’t exist. Contradicting the lawsuit’s assertion that the incident occurred at a grand mansion with a circular driveway, images reveal both Jay-Z (whose real name is Shawn Carter) and Diddy (Sean Combs) at a nightclub after the award ceremony.
At the court hearing, the woman testified that she had secretly slipped out of her residence in Rochester and caught a ride from a friend (who is now deceased) to attend the award ceremony. She mentioned that she observed the event on a giant outdoor screen, afterwards striking up a conversation with a limousine driver who eventually drove her to a house party. It was at this gathering where she fell victim to an assault by the two prominent rappers.
After the reported incident of being raped, she stated that she left the house and phoned her father for a lift home from a neighboring petrol station.
According to Spiro, the claim is “hard to believe,” as it would’ve required her to depart from Rochester by 3 p.m., which means she would have driven for five hours. However, permits and photos prove that there was no jumbotron outside the VMAs in 2000, as Spiro mentioned. The woman’s father also claims he doesn’t remember driving from Rochester to pick her up in New York City.
Spiro emphasized that the story in question isn’t merely untrue or fictional; instead, it can be clearly proven and shown to be false. In essence, he stated that this particular event did not occur.
The suit arrives during a surge of sexual misconduct allegations directed at Combs, who is currently imprisoned in New York, waiting for his upcoming trial on federal human trafficking accusations. However, he has denied these charges, with the trial scheduled for May.
The lawsuits were filed on the eve of the expiration of the Adult Survivors Act, a New York law permitting victims of sexual abuse a one-year window to file civil action regardless of the statute of limitations.
Originally, the woman filed a lawsuit against Combs. Later, she altered her claim to accuse not only Combs but also Jay-Z of being involved in the sexual assault. A third, unidentified celebrity is said to have observed the incident.
I, as a supporter and client of Tony Buzbee, a Houston-based personal injury attorney, have been part of a group of over 120 individuals – men and women – who have come forward with claims of sexual misconduct against Diddy (Combs). My lawyer, Mr. Buzbee, has established a toll-free hotline to facilitate this process, and he announced in October that he was representing us.
Last month, Jay-Z anonymously sued Buzbee, alleging the lawyer had attempted to blackmail him by making the rape allegation public if he did not agree to a legal settlement. Buzbee has said the letter was simply trying to set up a confidential mediation session.
In a statement last week, Jay-Z said his “heart and support goes out to true victims in the world.”
On Monday, Spiro alleged that Buzbee exploited the woman, all the while undermining this chance and the authentic cries of actual victims.
On Monday, Buzbee stated via email that the woman was previously recommended by another legal practice and thoroughly evaluated by four lawyers within his own team.
In addition, Buzbee stated that courts serve the purpose of settling disagreements over facts. Regarding our client, they continue to be firm in their assertion.
