Jay-Z Says Lawsuit Accusing Him of Raping a Child Is Part of an Extortion Ploy

As a longtime supporter of Jay-Z and someone who has followed his career since the early days of Reasonable Doubt, I find myself deeply saddened and frustrated by the latest allegations against him. It’s disheartening to see such a respected figure, who has always been a champion for social justice and equality, being dragged through the mud in this way.

NEW YORK – Rap artist Jay-Z claims the accusation of rape he faces is actually an attempt at extortion.

In simpler terms, the woman who originally accused Sean “Diddy” Combs of rape at a 2000 awards show after-party (when she was 13) updated her lawsuit on Sunday to claim that Jay-Z was present at the party and took part in the alleged sexual assault.

Jay-Z described the accusations as “absurd” and “malicious” in a statement issued by one of his corporations. Furthermore, it was disclosed that he had filed a lawsuit against Tony Buzbee, the woman’s lawyer, anonymously in California. The lawsuit claimed that Buzbee was attempting to extort him by threatening to expose a rape allegation if Jay-Z didn’t consent to a legal settlement out of court.

In simpler terms, Jay-Z stated that the letter from Buzbee seemed intended to propose a settlement, yet it ended up having an opposite impact.

His statement said, “I feel compelled to reveal your deceit in a highly visible manner, and absolutely not, I won’t give you a single penny, not even one red one!

The litigation is part of a wave of sexual assault lawsuits levied against Combs as the hip-hop mogul remains in custody in New York awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges.

Unidentified by name in the lawsuit, the woman claims she was present near Radio City Music Hall during the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. She alleges that she successfully persuaded a limousine driver to chauffeur her to an exclusive party filled with celebrities, held at a private residence following the event.

In my own words as a movie enthusiast: I was whisked away in a luxurious limo, where they handed me a confidentiality agreement to sign. Once I arrived at the glitzy event, I remember imbibing a drink that left me feeling quite dizzy and weak. Feeling the need to rest, I retreated to a cozy bedroom.

She asserted that Combs and Shawn Carter, also known as Jay-Z, entered the room accompanied by an additional, unidentified famous individual, and allegedly committed sexual assault against her.

At an October press conference, Buzbee, a legal professional specializing in personal injuries based in Houston, Texas, disclosed that he is representing approximately 120 individuals – both males and females – who have made accusations of inappropriate sexual behavior against Combs.

A short while after the establishment of a 1-800 hotline for complainants, his company initiated a series of lawsuits against the renowned hip-hop entrepreneur.

At that point, Combs’ legal representatives dismissed the accusations, labeling the press conference and hotline setup as “obvious efforts to generate public attention.

According to Buzbee, the claim that he was attempting a blackmail against Jay-Z is both absurd and amusing, and his letter merely aimed for private mediation during the legal proceedings.

In his recent statement, he didn’t mention that a demand letter was sent by my firm, on behalf of an alleged victim, to his lawyer, and that this victim never asked for a single penny from him. However, since I sent the letter, Mr. Carter has not only filed a lawsuit against me but also attempted to intimidate and harass both me and the plaintiff. Instead of silencing her, his behavior has only made her more courageous. I’m extremely proud of her strength.

Emails seeking additional comment were sent Monday to representatives for Jay-Z.

He expressed his deep sorrow in a social media statement released by his entertainment company, Roc Nation. “My primary concern,” he said, “is for my family’s well-being. My wife and I will need to have difficult conversations with our children, some of whom are at an age where they might encounter questions about the allegations in the press from their friends.” He added, “We will need to explain to them about the unkindness and selfishness that can exist in people.
