As a dedicated follower of Jay Leno‘s career for decades now, I have to say that this man is nothing short of indomitable. Time and time again, he has faced adversity with unwavering resilience and an undying sense of humor.

This week, Jay Leno was seen with noticeable facial injuries and an eyepatch following an incident where he tumbled 60 feet down a slope in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

74-year-old renowned host disclosed that he sustained a broken wrist and an injury to his eye after being struck by a pile of rocks, three hours prior to his scheduled show, on a Saturday evening in November 2022, following a car fire incident.

Tonight Show host Leno disclosed noticeable bruises along his left cheek and a wrist brace on his right arm during an interview with Inside Edition, while still making light of the event.

He said: ‘I hit a bunch of rocks, it was 60 feet. I broke my wrist. Lost my nail on the finger, I’m all black and blue from 60 feet of hitting rocks.

‘The rock hit me in the eye, I’m fine!’ – before adding his left eye is currently swollen shut.

He went to a restaurant bathroom to examine his wounds and – despite his injuries –   still managed to make it on stage that night.

Afterward, he made his way back home for a performance on Sunday evening in Los Angeles. Additionally, he acknowledged that he hasn’t visited a doctor as of now, but he intends to do so soon.

In November 2022, Leno suffered severe burns after an old-fashioned 1907 steam engine he was tinkering with in his garage unexpectedly blew up and hit him directly in the face.

After the intense fire blast at his car garage filled with classic vehicles that serve as his collection, Leno was admitted to the hospital for treatment.

George Swift, who works as a mechanic in the comedian’s private garage, shared with ET that it was a steam-powered vehicle that led to Leno’s hospitalization.

Swift, a mechanic from the garage, mentioned that the vehicle was powered by steam. He explained this steam came from gas which was then sprayed out, acting as the power source.

As I was speaking, I received a call informing me about a fire that had broken out. The fire department is on its way.

At approximately 12:30 PM that day, the Burbank Fire Department was called to a residence, which happened to be the late-night host’s home. Upon arrival, they evaluated and provided medical attention to an adult male.

Later, Leno was moved to a nearby urgent care facility, where he was subsequently relocated to the Grossman Burn Center for additional treatment.

A representative from the medical facility shared with People that Leno is currently in high spirits, moved by everyone’s concern and well-wishes regarding his health.

He wishes to inform everyone that he is thriving and currently receiving care at the top-notch burn center within the U.S.

Leno later issued a statement himself, saying he ‘got some serious burns from a gasoline fire.’

‘I am ok,’ the former late-night host said. ‘Just need a week or two to get back on my feet.’

Additionally, he informed TMZ that it was his friend, Dave, who played a crucial role in saving his life. He did this by leaping onto him and suffocating the fire.

The host mentioned that while fixing a blocked fuel line, he accidentally got splashed with gasoline on his hands and face.
