Jason Watkins’ ITV crime drama is cancelled after 4 seasons
Jason Watkins’s ITV drama McDonald & Dodds has been cancelled after four seasons.
Last summer saw the airing of the fourth season of the detective series, wrapping up with DCI Lauren McDonald (played by Tala Gouveia) agreeing to marry her partner.
Contrary to fan expectations of a fifth season filled with wedding celebrations, ITV has sadly announced the cancellation of the show. This decision was made due to the viewership numbers for the final season falling short of the required level for renewal (as reported by Radio Times)).
As a devoted fan, I’ve been captivated by the series titled “McDonald and Dodds“, premiering its initial season in March 2020. This engaging show chronicles the investigations of Detective Inspectors McDonald and Dodds, who are based in Bath, where they skillfully unravel mysteries.
Additionally, the recurring actors are Claire Skinner from Outnumbered and Charlie Chambers known for his role in EastEnders, who play Chief Superintendent Mary Ormond and Detective Constable Samuel Goldie respectively.
Or: Apart from them, Claire Skinner (from Outnumbered) and Charlie Chambers (famous for EastEnders) join the cast as Mary Ormond, a Chief Superintendent, and Detective Constable Samuel Goldie.
I’m thrilled to share that though I won’t reprise my role as DS Dodds in the near future, I’ve landed another exciting detective drama part! This fresh opportunity comes from the brilliant mind of Toby Frow, who brought us Death in Paradise. Can’t wait to dive into this new adventure!
Under the title “See You Again Later”, the Channel 5 show features Watkins playing the role of detective Huw Miller, a character tormented by an unsolved mystery: a menacing stalker from his town who cruelly tortured and eventually killed their victims.
With retirement on his horizon, Huw finds himself frequently thinking about the case. When a new neighbor, Patrick Harbottle, arrives and casually mentions ‘catch you later’ – a phrase reminiscent of the stalker’s chilling sign-off during the investigation – Huw becomes convinced that he has finally found his suspect.
Here’s what unfolds next: A tense game of psychologically charged chess takes place between the neighbors, as Huw finds himself in a precarious situation with his life falling apart.
Actor Robson Green from Grantchester has been chosen for the role of Patrick Harbottle, and Sunetra Sarker, known for Casualty, will also be part of the cast. (Or)
Robson Green, famous for his work in Grantchester, will play Patrick Harbottle, while Sunetra Sarker, recognized from Casualty, is also joining the cast.
Catch You Later is expected to air on Channel 5 in 2025.
