Dear England, the upcoming BBC drama, has announced some big names as part of its cast.
In a four-part production inspired by James Graham’s play, we follow Gareth Southgate’s tenure as manager of the English men’s soccer team, detailing his extraordinary path that led them to compete in not one but two significant championship finals.
Previously announced that Joseph Fiennes, who stars in “The Handmaid’s Tale,” would return to his role as Southgate for the stage adaptation, the BBC has now officially revealed a number of actors in an exciting development.
Fiennes is going to work alongside Jason Watkins from “The Crown” and Jodie Whittaker known for her role in “Doctor Who.” They will portray Greg Dyke, a former FA chairman, and Pippa Grange, a team psychologist in the production.
In addition to John Hodgkinson, Adam Hugill, Josh Barrow, and Lewis Shepherd, who are returning to their roles from the stage production, other actors joining the cast include Will Antenbring, Edem-Ita Duke, Francis Lovehall, Bobby Schofield, and Sam Spruell.

Speaking about it, Graham shared that one of the most fulfilling experiences in his writing career was when he brought the country’s beloved game to the National Theatre about two years ago. Now, he will adapt this very play, and as it embarks on its screen journey, broadcasted nationwide, it presents a massive opportunity for him.
As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but express my heartfelt appreciation for the exceptional talent we’ve brought together on this project. It’s truly inspiring to be part of a team that breathes life into such a captivating tale. A story that embodies the themes of redemption, resilience, and the power of kindness and compassion.

We’re incredibly excited to share the outstanding cast for ‘Dear England‘! It’s been truly delightful observing the camaraderie among this exceptional group as they begin filming,” commented Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama.
Under the guidance of directors Rupert Goold and Paul Whittington, with Joseph Fiennes and Jodie Whittaker as the main actors, Left Bank Pictures is bringing this production to BBC viewers. It promises to be quite a spectacle!
Dear England will air on BBC One and stream on BBC iPlayer in 2026.
