Jason Statham’s ‘Wrath of Man’ Dominates Hulu as Streaming’s Top Action Movie
Fans of action thrillers consistently appreciate collaborations between a renowned director and a gritty British actor, and this trend continues as one of their undervalued revenge movies is currently leading the way on the Hulu streaming chart.
In 2021, I found myself drawn to the gripping heist-revenge thriller that’s been making waves on Hulu ever since it joined the platform on July 3. Climbing swiftly up the charts, it managed to outrank fresh releases such as “F*ck Marry Kill” and “Barbara Walters: Tell Me Everything.” It’s clear that raw, intense action movies have a strong appeal in the streaming world, and Dwayne Johnson (aka The Rock) is no stranger to gracing the Top 10 lists on various platforms with his latest as well as classic titles under his belt.
Originating from the 2004 French film “Le Convoyeur” (or “Cash Truck”), “Wrath of Man” gained immense success when it hit theaters four years ago, earning a global revenue of $104 million. While this is satisfactory for its genre, it’s not exceptionally remarkable. Upon release, it received a 67% approval from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but garnered a more delightful 90% rating from the audience. The plotline of “Wrath of Man” can be summarized as:
A recently hired, enigmatic security guard (Jason Statham), with an intense gaze, catches his colleagues off-guard during a robbery by displaying exceptional abilities. The team is left puzzled about his identity and origin. However, the true intent of this skilled marksman gradually unfolds as he embarks on a series of bold and decisive actions to avenge something personal.
Jason Statham Continues to Be a Big Crowd-Pleaser
More recently, Jason Statham has enjoyed significant success with “The Beekeeper” and “A Working Man,” two films that are highly likely to spawn at least one follow-up. “The Beekeeper” made a splash at the box office, but its true success story unfolded when it landed in Prime Video’s Top 10 and has remained there for most of the past year.
In my perspective as a movie reviewer, Jason Statham consistently delivers action-packed films where he often portrays men yearning to escape their haunted pasts. Yet, fate has a knack for pulling them back into the very realm they long to abandon. Interestingly, these roles seem tailor-made for Statham, continuing to captivate his dedicated fanbase again and again.
The film titled “Wrath of Man” significantly boosted Statham’s acting career, and he has primarily maintained his prominence with a series of intense, action-packed thrillers. As audiences continue to show interest, Statham remains content to deliver excitement, and he has several upcoming projects in different stages of production. A sequel to “The Beekeeper” is forthcoming, set to join his anticipated role in “Fast & Furious 11“, as well as “Mutiny“, the upcoming thriller from Jean-Francois Richet, who previously directed “Plane“.
Essentially, you can always count on finding new movies featuring Jason Statham coming soon, and when there’s a lull, his classic films are abundant on streaming services, ensuring that fans remain contented and exhilarated.
