Jason Statham’s action remake is now available to watch on Netflix
As a seasoned gamer and movie enthusiast with over two decades of film-watching under my belt, I must say that revisiting Jason Statham’s action masterpiece “The Mechanic” on Netflix was like taking a walk down memory lane. This remake, released in 2011, has been a part of my collection for quite some time, and I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia whenever I see it pop up.
Jason Statham’s action epic The Mechanic has landed on Netflix.
Introduced in 2011, movie star Jason Statham portrays Arthur Bishop, an accomplished assassin skilled at making fatalities seem like unfortunate accidents or suicides.
However, after the demise of his mentor and dear friend Harry (Donald Sutherland), Arthur finds himself in a new phase of life, as he takes on the task of training Harry’s son Steve (Ben Foster) to become an assassin.
This movie is a modern adaptation of the 1972 title that originally starred Charles Bronson, Jan-Michael Vincent, Keenan Wynn, and Jill Ireland in its cast.
The Mechanic received a variety of opinions and has a 54% score among critics on Rotten Tomatoes at present.
The Critics Consensus reads: “Jason Statham and Ben Foster turn in enjoyable performances, but this superficial remake betrays them with mind-numbing violence and action thriller clichés.”
In 2016, a follow-up movie titled “Mechanic: Resurrection” hit the screens, where Jason Statham once again took on the character of Arthur. After orchestrating his own demise, Arthur was enjoying a tranquil life in Rio de Janeiro.
His life is once again thrown into chaos when he is approached to kill three new targets.
The cast also included Jessica Alba, Michelle Yeoh, Tommy Lee Jones, and Femi Elufowoju Jr.
Discussing “The Mechanic,” Statham shared his thoughts on tackling a remake over three decades since the initial release, as well as the potential audience anticipation.
As a devoted admirer, I acknowledge that stepping into territory already mastered comes with its own set of anticipations. You’ll inevitably encounter individuals who will measure your work against the original. But remember, we’re talking about decades later now.
Regarding performing his own stunts, Statham explained: “I’m deeply involved in every aspect of the stunts, and since I’m the one executing them, my thoughts carry significant weight. If the proposed plan doesn’t seem right to me, we adjust it accordingly.
The Mechanic is available to stream now on Netflix.
