The upcoming Supergirl movie is set to be DC’s biggest release in 2026. While fans are eager for the first trailer, a fan-made concept trailer offers a glimpse of what the film might hold. Milly Alcock first appeared as Kara Zor-El in James Gunn’s Superman movie, briefly introducing her character and setting the stage for her own solo adventure.
The movie Superman ended with a surprising reveal: Krypto was Supergirl’s dog, and she showed up at the Fortress of Solitude, visibly intoxicated, to take him. Krypto is central to the Supergirl movie’s story because his near-death experience is what kicks off the entire plot.
A concept trailer for a Supergirl story featuring Lobo and Brainiac has been shared on YouTube by Screen Culture, imagining how they might fit into James Gunn’s DC Universe.
The new DC trailer gives a feel for the kind of story Supergirl will tell by showcasing clips from various projects. It establishes Brainiac as the main villain, with Alcock’s Supergirl bravely facing him. Jason Momoa makes an appearance as Lobo, moving on from his role as Aquaman in the fast-moving trailer.
Could Brainiac Appear In DC’s Supergirl Movie?

Since the fan-made trailer isn’t connected to the official DC Universe, it offers a glimpse of what the upcoming Supergirl series might feel and look like. The series is planned as a large-scale, space-focused story inspired by the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comics. Because of this connection to the comics, the trailer’s inclusion of the villain Brainiac is particularly interesting.
Though Brainiac is expected to be the primary villain in the upcoming Superman sequel starring David Corenswet, he doesn’t appear in the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic books. Instead, the movie will feature Krem of the Yellow Hills as the main villain, a role played by Matthias Schoenaerts, just as he is in the comics.
While it’s still uncertain, Brainiac might show up in Supergirl, potentially in a minor capacity. Just like Lobo wasn’t originally featured in the comics, Jason Momoa is reprising his role as the character for DC, so a similar approach could be taken with Brainiac. Considering Brainiac is set to be the primary villain in the next Superman movie, a brief appearance in Supergirl could help introduce the character and build anticipation.
For weeks, there’s been growing excitement about the first trailer for the Supergirl movie. The launch of official social media pages and a website for the film suggests the trailer is coming soon. There’s a possibility the Supergirl trailer will debut in theaters alongside Avatar: Fire and Ash, similar to how the first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday is expected to be shown.
