Currently, The Wrecking Crew is the most popular movie on Prime Video, according to FlixPatrol. It’s beating out other action movies like Playdate (No. 8), as well as two films starring Jason Statham, A Working Man (No. 3) and The Beekeeper (No. 10).
Jonny, a suspended and struggling police detective, investigates the puzzling death of his father, who worked as a private investigator. He joins forces with his long-lost half-brother, James, portrayed by Dave Bautista, known for his roles in Guardians of the Galaxy and The Killer’s Game, to uncover the truth.
The movie launched on Prime Video on January 28th and has remained a top pick ever since. It’s currently the fourth most-watched film on the platform this year, but that ranking could change as more movies are released.
Why The Wrecking Crew Is Dominating the Streaming Charts
Jason Momoa is currently more popular than Jason Statham and Alan Ritchson, but it’s still uncertain if this success will continue. His recent projects are attracting a lot of new viewers. In comparison, Playdate saw an initial boost in viewers after its November release. A Working Man came out in March, and The Beekeeper was released at the beginning of 2024.
While The Wrecking Crew is currently popular, its viewership will likely decrease over time, creating opportunities for other action and thriller movies on Prime Video to climb the streaming charts. The Beekeeper is expected to become very popular soon, and A Working Man might also attract more viewers as audiences anticipate The Beekeeper 2 and seek out familiar Jason Statham films.
Critics generally like the film, giving it a 74% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Viewers seem to enjoy it a bit less, with a score of 68%. On IMDb, the movie has a rating of 6.5 out of 10, which is similar to the audience score.
It remains to be seen if The Wrecking Crew will become a long-term streaming hit like other popular action movies, but right now, Jason Momoa is the standout star, eclipsing even Alan Ritchson and Jason Statham.
