Jason Manford quits his radio show after eight years leaving fans ‘devastated’: ‘It’s time to hang up the headphones and say goodbye’

Jason Manford is leaving his Sunday morning show on Absolute Radio after hosting it for eight years.

The 44-year-old comedian announced his departure in an Instagram post on Sunday, but didn’t say why he was leaving.

After eight years of fun, rambling conversations on the air (Steve jokingly calls it ‘Nonsequence’!), I’m saying goodbye to my Sunday morning show on Absolute Radio. It’s time to step away from the microphone.

‘Nearly 400 episodes of nonsense, laughter and whatever popped into our heads between the songs.

From the very beginning, with different comedians each week, through the unusual time of lockdown, and continuing with Steve Edge, being part of your Sunday routine has meant so much to us.

Honestly, I’ve lost count of everyone who popped by, but having all my friends come round for a chat was just the best! And I have to give a special shout-out to the incredible @thesarahmillican – she was here more than anyone, and always brightened the place up. She’s amazing!

I’m going to miss all the fun we had – the goofy songs, the silly games like #BinChat, ‘Questions for Steve,’ and ‘Hit Me With Your Best Chat.’ It was amazing how so many of you participated and made it feel like one big, ridiculous, and wonderful chat.

It still amazes me that over 800,000 of you listened every week! Knowing so many people tuned in made our show one of the most popular on the station, and honestly, it’s incredibly humbling. I feel so privileged and grateful for all of your support. Thank you!

Jason expressed his gratitude for listeners welcoming them into their daily routines – whether it’s during their commute, at home, or even while walking their dogs. He shared that this support has been deeply meaningful.

Okay, seriously, you NEED to be ready in 2026. I just know Steve is going to unleash more Nonsequence on us – I still think it’s a made-up word, honestly, but whatever! It’s going to be amazing, you guys, just you wait and see. I’m already counting down the days!

Viewers expressed their disappointment, with one writing, “I’m really upset! Please tell us there will be at least one more episode featuring a Christmas product tasting!”

Oh no! I’m so disappointed to hear this podcast is ending – it was the highlight of my Monday mornings! You two are great together and should definitely consider starting your own show. ‘Nonsequence’ would be a fantastic name!

‘frequently a ‘safe space’ for an hour when life got tough’ and ‘I’m distraught about this.’.

Jason had a tough few months – he needed surgery in August after being diagnosed with appendicitis.

The comedian was scheduled to perform his ‘A Manford All Seasons’ tour in Hertfordshire on Thursday, but he had to cancel after falling ill. He subsequently cancelled three additional shows as well.

After a frightening 24 hours, Jason had surgery. He first started feeling unwell while driving at 70 miles per hour on the highway.

He announced on Instagram that his appendectomy was successful and he’s now recovering, enjoying a Vimto – which he noted is available in all Manchester hospitals.

The last 24 hours were really frightening and painful, but I’m so grateful for the NHS and especially my amazing mum, who’s a nurse and has been a lifesaver during this health scare!

‘My advice would be to not get Appendicitis whilst driving at 70mph on the motorway!’
