Jason Kelce regrets choosing to 'greet hate with hate' after fan's anti-gay slur about Travis dating Taylor Swift

As a follower and admirer of Jason Kelce’s football skills and charismatic personality, I was saddened to see him lose his cool in the recent incident at Beaver Stadium. Jason Kelce, a seven-time Pro Bowl center and Philadelphia icon, has always been known for his outgoing nature, shaggy beard, and quick wit. However, his actions this past weekend were not a reflection of the man I’ve come to know and respect.

On Monday evening, Jason Kelce acknowledged his remorse over responding to hatred with more hatred, following his action of crushing a fan’s phone outside Beaver Stadium during the Ohio State-Penn State game in University Park, Pennsylvania on Saturday.

Previously with the Philadelphia Eagles and now a part of ESPN’s “Monday Night Countdown” team, Jason Kelce participated in a “College GameDay” event for the network on campus. A video clip shared on social media shows Kelce interacting with fans outside the stadium, where a man could be overheard shouting a derogatory remark about gay relationships, apparently directed at Kelce’s brother, Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs, due to false rumors about him dating Taylor Swift.

Later on, Jason Kelce takes a mobile device from an individual (apparently the heckler) and shatters it onto the floor. Additional footage reveals Kelce engaged in a passionate argument with the man, repeatedly using the same offensive term against him.

The Penn State University Police and Public Safety Department is investigating the incident.

At the beginning of the broadcast on Monday evening, Kelce spoke about the issue, prior to his brother Travis’ Kansas City Chiefs facing off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Kelce expressed that everyone has witnessed on social media what occurred this week. “Frankly, I’m not satisfied with anything that transpired,” he added. “To be candid, I didn’t like it and I’m not proud of it. In a heated instant, I opted to respond to hate with more hate, and I truly believe that’s not beneficial, and I don’t think it fosters dialogue or is the correct approach. In that moment, I sank to a level that I shouldn’t have.

Essentially, I strive to follow the golden rule in my daily life, a principle I’ve been taught since long ago. This means treating others with kindness and dignity, and I intend to continue doing so, despite falling short recently.

ESPN declined to comment for this article.

Jason Kelce, a center who’s been selected for the Pro Bowl an impressive seven times, spent all 13 of his NFL career seasons playing for the Eagles before deciding to hang up his cleats during the offseason. Known for his outgoing personality and bushy beard, this beloved figure from Philadelphia has gained widespread recognition in recent years, showing up in numerous television advertisements and co-hosting “New Heights” podcast with his brother.

As a fervent admirer, I’d like to highlight that I am fortunate to be associated with a nine-time Pro Bowler, namely Travis Kelce. For over a year now, he and the enchanting pop music sensation, Taylor Swift, have been sharing their journey together.
