Jason Bateman and his wife, Amanda Anka, had a stylish night out at the Actor Awards—formerly known by another name—held Sunday at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in downtown Los Angeles.
The 57-year-old actor, once a famous child star, looked sharp in a classic tuxedo and polished leather shoes at the awards show streamed on Netflix and hosted by SAG-AFTRA.
Jason Bateman has been nominated for an award for his performance as Vince Friedken in the Netflix series, Black Rabbit. The award recognizes outstanding acting in a TV movie or limited series.
Jason Bateman, who co-hosts the SmartLess podcast, is up against strong competition for the award. He’s competing with Owen Cooper and Stephen Graham from Adolescence, Charlie Hunnam from Monster: The Ed Gein Story, and Matthew Rhys from The Beast in Me.
Meanwhile, the 57-year-old retired actress served as Bateman’s arm candy for the evening.
Anka showed off her fit arms in a strapless dress covered in mirrors, paired with matching shoes. She only wore her wedding ring as jewelry.
The couple, originally from New York and known for appearing together in the 2003 romantic comedy Sol Good, have two daughters: Franny, age 19, and Maple, age 14.
It wasn’t until 2004, after three years of marriage to his wife Anka, that Bateman adopted a ‘California sober’ lifestyle. Anka had consistently supported his efforts to stop drinking and using cocaine, which he referred to as ‘the Scarface stuff’.
The Emmy-winning director told THR Magazine last month that Amanda and I had to discuss when the party would definitely end.
‘She’d be like, “This drip, drip, drip is annoyingly unpredictable, Jason.”‘
Honestly, seeing Bateman struggle with staying sober was killing me. He kept saying six months felt like the finish line, but then he had this moment – like he realized if he just dealt with it right then, it would take so much pressure off. It was like, ‘Forget waiting, let’s just get this over with!’ It was intense, but it showed how determined he was, you know?
Interestingly, when Bateman first met Anka at a Los Angeles Kings hockey game in 1988, she didn’t start dating him for ten years because of his wild lifestyle in Hollywood.
‘I just wasn’t into where he was at,’ the nepo daughter of Paul Anka told GQ in 2013.
It’s just… unbelievable. He used to be so outgoing, but now? Forget it. I can’t even get him to leave the couch for a party! Honestly, all he wants to do is grab some frozen yogurt and then come right back home. It’s like, that’s his ideal night now, and I’m just… fascinated by how much things have changed.
The actor known for Zootopia 2, and who occasionally enjoys a marijuana gummy, was a surprisingly responsible and hardworking young man. He took on roles in shows like Little House on the Prairie and Silver Spoons, and even in the movie Teen Wolf Too, to help his family with money.
After finishing his six-year role as David on the NBC sitcom The Hogan Family in 1991, Bateman indulged in some reckless behavior.
The former teen heartthrob remembered that he was lucky to have come of age before social media and smartphones were common. He admitted he’d gotten into some trouble, but managed to avoid serious consequences a few times thanks to the lack of instant documentation.
Jason Bateman’s career really took off when he played the straight-laced Michael Bluth in the comedy series Arrested Development. The show, created by Mitchell Hurwitz, originally aired on Fox from 2003 to 2006 and later continued on Netflix from 2013 to 2019, lasting a total of five seasons.
After making a real impact with my environmental work – what some call the ‘Ice Out’ campaign – things really took off creatively. I moved into producing, directing, and starring in the Netflix series Ozark, which was an incredible experience. That then led to an amazing opportunity – co-hosting the SmartLess podcast, and a really fantastic deal worth around $100 million. It’s been a wild ride, leveraging passion for positive change into a fulfilling and successful career!
After watching from the sidelines for a long time, Bateman realized that lasting success wasn’t about fame or fortune—it was about earning people’s respect.
‘I still feel like I’m trying not to be a child-actor failure. I’m still trying to make it out.’
The award-winning actor will both produce and star in a new seven-episode series called DTF St. Louis, premiering Sunday night on HBO Max. He’ll play Clark, who finds himself caught in a complicated love triangle.
David Harbour stars in a dark comedy and murder mystery where his middle-aged character meets an untimely end. Linda Cardellini, Richard Jenkins, Joy Sunday, and Peter Sarsgaard also appear in the film.
Aggregate Films, the production company founded by Brett Bateman, also produced “Evil Genius,” Courteney Cox’s latest film as director. The movie features David Harbour, Patricia Arquette, Ryan Eggold, and Thomas Michael Allen.
This independent crime thriller is inspired by the true story of Brian Wells, a pizza delivery driver who died in 2003, as detailed in a Netflix documentary from 2018.
Anka’s most recent credited work, according to IMDb, was as a producer on the Apple TV+ series The Morning Show, a role she held from 2019 to 2021.
