Jason Aldean’s wife Brittany Aldean dredges up Maren Morris feud – calls her ‘pro-woman’ stance ‘bulls***’ following transphobia spat
As a dedicated fan of country music and a fervent supporter of Jason Aldean and his wife Brittany, I have been closely following their recent podcast appearance on Try That In A Small Town, where they discussed their infamous spat with Maren Morris over her derogatory comments about Brittany’s business. Having read through the transcript, I cannot help but feel a deep sense of frustration and disappointment at how the media has distorted and misrepresented the situation.
During a podcast interview on Monday, country musician Jason Aldean’s spouse, Brittany Aldean, attempted to clarify her perspective in the ongoing conflict between her and fellow country artist Maren Morris.
Brittany, aged 36, and Jason, age 47, listened to the Try That In A Small Town podcast after Brittany became involved in a controversial online dispute with Maren, 34, over comments that some perceived as transphobic in 2022.
As an obsessed fan, I’ve closely analyzed her performance during the debate with Maren, and while I appreciated her strong stance against Morris’ pro-woman views being labeled as “bulls***,” I couldn’t help but notice that she softened her criticism towards gender-affirming care for transgender people. Instead of emphasizing her concerns, she played down her statements on this matter.
The podcast offered a secure environment for her to explore the heated online argument, since it was led by the four composers of Aldean’s popular song “Try It in a Small Town.”
In 2023, the hit song reached number one on both the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and the Hot Country Songs chart. However, this tune received backlash from liberals and moderates for seemingly endorsing lynchings and vigilante justice. Despite this controversy, Jason, who didn’t compose the song, asserted that it did not hold such a meaning.
An initial argument between Brittany and Maren started in August 2022, as Brittany posted a video of her preparing for an event, expressing gratitude towards her parents for not altering her gender during her tomboy stage, and cherishing her feminine lifestyle.
Later, she referred to ‘the genital mutilation of children’ in follow-up posts.
As a dedicated supporter of inclusivity and equality, I’m dismayed by the lack of understanding shown by some celebrities with beauty brands. Instead of embracing the LGBTQ+ community in their messaging, we continue to witness insensitive comparisons. Cassadee Pope, the country singer, recently expressed her disappointment on Twitter: “It’s disappointing to see that celebs with beauty brands don’t seem to grasp the positives of including LGBTQ+ people in their messaging. Instead, we hear careless comparisons between someone’s ‘tomboy phase’ and someone’s desire to transition. Really unfortunate.”
Maren responded to Cassadee’s comment on the topic of Brittany with a quip: “Really, Insurrection Barbie, isn’t it simple not to act like a dishonorable person? Why don’t you sell your extensions and keep quiet?”
As an obsessed fan, I can’t help but notice how skillfully Brittany summarized the heated online debates. However, it feels like she subtly left out her own initial remarks about transgender healthcare in the process.
Maren explained to the hosts through Billboard that there is a circle of friends in Nashville who seem to dislike her for some unknown reason.
In my perspective, it seems that Brittany feels misunderstood and frustrated by someone’s perceived pro-feminist stance towards her. She questions their authenticity, as she has never had a conversation with this person and believes they are attacking her without justification. Brittany is married and uses social media to express herself, which she feels makes her an easy target for criticism. Her words convey a sense of hurt and defensiveness, reflecting her experiences and emotions.
‘For some reason I offend them,’ she continued.
“Maren made fun of my hair extension business when it first began,” she explained.
“Once more, this situation reminds me of the feminist movement for me. Don’t you believe in harmony, compassion, and acceptance? Why do you attack me so fiercely over my business?” she pondered.
It was only later that she referenced her comments that set off the claims of transphobia.
I’m grateful my parents never pressured me with questions like, “Brit, you have a passion for sports and admire Babe Ruth, so you wish to be a boy?” They deemed such an idea as preposterous. (As a lifestyle expert, I believe everyone should embrace their unique identity without societal pressure or expectations.)
Among Kurt Allison, Neil Thrasher, Kelley Lovelace, Tully Kennedy, and all the other guests and hosts, there was a strong consensus that it was now quite prevalent for parents to initiate gender transitions in their minor children.
Children experiencing gender dysphoria, which is the feeling of discomfort or distress due to a disparity between one’s physical body and identified gender, often undergo various stages prior to receiving any treatment.
Based on my personal experience as a mental health professional, I strongly believe that parents play a crucial role in supporting their younger children who may be experiencing gender identity confusion or exploration. Many of these children may grow out of this feeling as they develop a clearer sense of self over time. As someone who has worked with numerous families dealing with such issues, I have seen firsthand how a nurturing and accepting environment can make all the difference in helping these kids feel valued and loved, ultimately contributing to their emotional well-being and resilience.
If a therapist identifies that someone has gender dysphoria, then they may be considered for treatments like puberty blockers or hormone replacement therapy. It’s important to note that these treatments can be reversible. Not every child with gender dysphoria will require any form of hormonal intervention during their development; some might not feel the need for it at all.
The Endocrine Society’s directives advise adolescents to take puberty-halting medications for a maximum of two years so they can more accurately identify their gender before considering hormone treatment during their teenage years, which initiates puberty once again.
For some transmasculine adolescents, having a mastectomy at the age of 16 is an available choice. However, in certain Republican-led states, surgeries like mastectomies and hormonal therapies are prohibited for minors.
According to Scientific American, the Endocrine Society advises against performing genital surgery on minors.
Brittany responded to being called “transphobic” in headlines following her disagreement with Maren, but she admitted she liked the unflattering moniker “Insurrection Barbie” that the country singer-songwriter had given her.
I’ve been affectionately labeled “Insurrection Barbie” by some, and my husband chuckled, saying, “It’s quite the intriguing nickname.”
