As a dedicated fan of Jared Padalecki, I’ve always admired his talent and charisma both on and off-screen. But what truly impresses me is his courage and vulnerability in sharing his personal struggles with mental health issues.
In an open admission, Jared Padalecki shared that he received professional help in the year 2015, when he was grappling with thoughts of suicide during the peak of “Supernatural” fame.
In a recent interview on Tommy DiDario’s podcast “I’ve Never Said This Before,” which came out Tuesday, Padalecki shared how deep-rooted negative thoughts pushed him to a distressing point. He opened up to his wife, Genevieve, who urged him to go home.
After returning home from the hospital following my stay at the clinic for a few weeks, I delved deep into understanding my situation. Since then, there hasn’t been a single instant where I entertained thoughts of taking my own life.
In an interview on DiDario’s podcast, Padalecki shared that he continues to experience ups and downs in life, but finds comfort and strength in his loved ones. He implored fans to be open about their feelings, reach out to friends or experts, and express their deepest truths.
In an interview with Variety back in March 2015, Padalecki opened up about his battles with mental health issues. Coinciding with this, he initiated a T-shirt fundraiser aimed at helping To Write Love on Her Arms, a charitable organization that assists individuals dealing with depression, addiction, self-harm, and suicide.
As a devoted cinephile, I once shared with Varity that during the production of “Supernatural’s” third season, a doctor shocked me with the news of a potential clinical depression diagnosis after an unexpected breakdown. Initially, I found it hard to grasp this revelation.
He shared with the trade that he had loving dogs, numerous friends, and was receiving appreciation from fans, all while being content with his work. However, he couldn’t pinpoint why he felt this way – it didn’t have to make sense, he explained. Depression isn’t limited to those who can’t find employment or struggle with social acceptance; it can affect anyone.
In May 2015, two months after the publication of that article, Padalecki announced the cancellation of his scheduled appearances at fan conventions. He explained on Twitter at the time that he was experiencing an urgent need to be with his family and had to return home immediately.
In his announcement, the manager shared that Padalecki had been working extremely hard and was experiencing extreme fatigue.
Approximately two months past, an invigorated Padalecki graced the Comic-Con stage in San Diego, with over 6,000 fans waving electric candles in his direction – a heartfelt gesture that brought tears to his eyes. The video is definitely worth watching.
