Jared Leto’s Skeletor Voice in He-Man Movie Trailer Gets Mixed Reactions

The trailer for the new Masters of the Universe movie has everyone talking about Jared Leto’s portrayal of Skeletor. While people are excited to see He-Man back on screen, the biggest reaction so far has been to Leto’s voice as the villain, and fans are divided on whether they like it.

Masters of the Universe fans react to Jared Leto’s Skeletor Voice

The new trailer for Masters of the Universe reveals Skeletor’s voice, and it’s a bit of a surprise. Unlike the silly but menacing tone from the classic cartoon, this Skeletor sounds deeper and more restrained.

The trailer features Skeletor declaring, “The universe shall quake in my shadow,” and then challenging He-Man, saying, “You may have the power, but you’re too scared to use it.” His voice is lower and subtly altered, sounding more controlled than previous versions. Jared Leto’s portrayal of Skeletor’s voice quickly became a major talking point online, particularly on Twitter, with people sharing a wide range of reactions.

Not everyone was thrilled with the voice. One fan compared it to Arnold Schwarzenegger attempting Bane’s voice, while another criticized it as an overdone ‘old man’ filter that didn’t sound like Skeletor at all, and questioned why Jared Leto was cast in the first place. Several people felt it was a poor imitation of other villainous voices, with one commenter calling it a ‘dollar store Bane’.

Okay, so it wasn’t a universal hit, but it definitely wasn’t all bad. I saw one comment that said it wasn’t quite up to Alan Oppenheimer’s level, but they didn’t dislike it. Another person admitted, surprisingly, that they actually enjoyed it – and that was the only nice thing they were going to say! What really struck me, though, was that some viewers actually liked how understated it was, saying it sounded genuinely menacing without being over the top. It wasn’t for everyone, but it clearly resonated with a few people.

Director Travis Knight has suggested this new take on Skeletor will be distinct from previous versions, describing him as a representation of harmful masculine traits. He aims to revitalize the character while preserving the elements fans love. The movie also features Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms, according to Empire.

Masters of the Universe is scheduled to hit theaters on June 5.
