Janet Jackson’s ‘apology’ for statement saying Kamala Harris is not Black takes another surprising turn

Janet Jackson's 'apology' for statement saying Kamala Harris is not Black takes another surprising turn

As a long-time, ardent fan of Janet Jackson, I must admit, this recent turn of events has left me utterly dumbfounded and disheartened. For years, Janet has been an unwavering beacon of strength, resilience, and empowerment for the Black community, and her music has provided solace and inspiration to countless souls like myself. However, her recent remarks regarding Kamala Harris’ racial identity have left a bitter taste in my mouth and a cloud of confusion over her intentions.

According to Janet Jackson’s management, someone not authorized did a statement on her behalf, apologizing for comments she made about Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris’ background, which had been released earlier.

58-year-old Reps clarified to Variety that the broadly distributed statement did not originate from one of Jackson’s official managers.

As reported by the source, an individual claiming to be Mo Elmasri allegedly made a misstatement when they informed Buzzfeed that they were the singer’s representative, in the apology for the comments regarding the vice president.

Janet Jackson wants to make things clear about her recent remarks. She acknowledges that her comments concerning Vice President Kamala Harris’ ethnicity were founded on incorrect information.

The conversation went on with this: ‘Janet acknowledges and values Harris’ mixed ancestry, being both Black and Indigenous, and expresses regret over any misunderstanding that may have arisen.’

Janet appreciates the multicultural essence of Harris and recognizes the significance of acknowledging this richness in our contemporary world. She continues to advocate for unity and mutual comprehension.

For many years, the entertainer from Gary, Indiana who was born into a well-known family, has been overseen by her brother Randy, according to Variety. Unfortunately, the family is currently in mourning following the passing of Tito Jackson on September 15, and thus unavailable for comment at this time.

In a brief on IMDb for Elmasri, it’s mentioned he is an Egyptian filmmaker who heads 24 East Agency, a consultancy firm. His current role involves serving as a creative advisor to numerous international superstars such as Janet Jackson, Beyoncé, Britney Spears, and Selena Gomez.

As a lifestyle expert, I can proudly say that my diverse portfolio boasts an executive producer role in Janet Jackson: Family First, and creative direction (though unofficially credited) for Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw in 2019. Additionally, I honed my skills as a trainee assistant director on John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum the same year.

As Jackson, aged 58, I stirred up quite a buzz on social media after I openly shared my unconventional opinions regarding the potential Democratic nominee for the 2024 presidency in an interview with The Guardian.

“Apparently, this is what I was told – she isn’t African-American; instead, it seems she may be of Indian origin.

I was informed that her father is Caucasian. However, since I haven’t caught up on the news recently, this information might have come from someone.

Responding to a storm of criticism and dismay over the popstar’s remarks, reminiscent of those made by the 2024 Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, her representative released a statement to Buzzfeed.

The statement attributed to Elmasri did not go over well with everyone.

One X user posted: ‘Janet Jackson sounded an absolute fool in that interview and I am very disappointed. We are less than 50 days away from the election. We gotta talk smarter!’

Another user posted on X: ‘Janet Jackson is one of the most influential people in music history. It was simply irresponsible of her to repeat something she ‘heard’ regarding the very thing that they use against Kamala! Her own race.

Born in 1964, I, Harris, am the offspring of two extraordinary individuals – Dr. Shyamala Gopalan, a brilliant Indian-origin cancer researcher, and Donald J. Harris, a distinguished Black Jamaican economist.

They got married in 1963 but split up in 1971, following the birth of their daughters Kamala and Maya, who is now 57 years old.

In the year 2009, when he was 70 years old, Gopalan passed away due to cancer. On the other hand, Donald Harris, who is currently 86, stepped down as a professor emeritus of economics at Stanford University in 1998 after his retirement.

Jackson’s deceased sibling, Michael, encountered scrutiny concerning his complexion as it shifted from dark to light during his professional journey. He attributed this change to a health issue known as vitiligo and firmly dismissed any allegations of skin lightening treatments.

Trump suggested at the National Association of Black Journalists’ conference in Chicago in July that Harris “just so happened” to identify as Black.

He said: ‘She was always of Indian heritage, and she was only promoting Indian heritage.

I wasn’t aware that she identified as Black until recently. It was only more years down the line when she transitioned to identify herself as Black. Now, she prefers to be recognized by that identity.

‘So I don’t know, is she Indian or is she Black?

‘Although I hold both identities in high regard, it seems she doesn’t share this view, as she appeared to be Indian initially but later transformed her identity and identified herself as African-American. It might be worth investigating this change.’

Days later, Harris dismissed Trump’s comments, saying that they were just more of the same – division, disregard, and the familiar spectacle.

She added: ‘The American people deserve better.’

The vice president has yet to comment on Jackson’s remarks about her race.

Many conservative individuals were upset by Trump’s remarks about Vice President Harris’ racial background, as even some of his loyal supporters felt frustrated that he wasn’t concentrating on criticizing her policy stances instead.

Earlier this month, Trump appeared to double down on his comments about Harris’ race.

‘I don’t care what she is. I don’t care. Whatever she wants to be is okay with me.’

The latest surveys indicate that the contest between Trump and Harris is extremely close, with Election Day just around the corner on Tuesday, November 5th.
