Janet Jackson and Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne rub shoulders with British TV icons Denise Welch and Claire Sweeney as they celebrate Cabaret’s 1500th performance

At the renowned Kit Kat Club, the 1500th presentation of the timeless musical Cabaret brought together an extraordinary assembly of celebrities from Hollywood and British television, creating an unexpected blend of stardom in recent memory.

At the event, both Janet Jackson and Eddie Redmayne were present, and it was Janet who chose to wear a fashionable white trouser suit and coordinating shirt.

Accompanied by the R&B artist Maxwell, a stylish Janet (age 59) gracefully made her entrance at the gala event, where the iconic show was set to perform.

In 2021, Eddie, who had previously played the role of the Emcee in the London revival of Cabaret, spent an evening out with his wife, Hannah Bagshawe, at the same production.

The award-winning individual, aged 43, donned a sleek navy blue suit with an ascot tie, whereas Hannah chose a stylish, frilly black dress.

Some parts of the A-list guest list showed an unexpected difference compared to celebrities widely recognized by UK audiences.

At the glamorous gathering, Denise Welch made an entrance in a sleek, monochrome ensemble, whereas Claire Sweeney chose a daring gown embellished with flowers.

On a romantic evening out, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and her husband Richard Jones were spotted together. The singer’s unique fashion flair was evident as she donned a vibrant purple and red dress with eye-catching prints.

Shona McGarty, known for her role in EastEnders, showcased her fashion sense by wearing a black corset top underneath a white shirt, and paired it with flared pants of the same color.

In 2021, Cabaret was reintroduced for a performance in London’s West End, and since then, notable actors who have taken on the roles of The Emcee and Sally Bowles include Aimee Lou Wood and John McCrea, Luke Treadaway and Cara Delevingne, and Billy Porter and Marisha Wallace.

Janet has previously revealed she felt ‘unattractive’ and hated her body image growing up.

Jackson expressed that her distress intensified when her brothers, including Michael Jackson, mockingly referred to her weight with terms like ‘pig’, ‘cow’, and ‘slaughter-hog.’

‘I would literally bang my head up against the wall because I didn’t feel attractive,’ she said.

‘There was a lot of pain in my life. But I did. I felt very unattractive.’

In 2011, the songwriter shared her struggles with weight in an autobiography titled “True You: A Path to Embracing and Appreciating Yourself.

When Janet was ten years old, her weight issues started as she requested to shed some pounds for a part in a television show.

She stated, “I was instructed to shed some pounds. Although I wasn’t overweight during the show, I was just 10 years old and growing rapidly. They would wrap gauze around my chest to make me look smaller, which might have affected me psychologically as a child, making me feel that I wasn’t good enough as I am.

This year, Janet shared insights about dealing with the passing of her brother, Michael Jackson, who died in June 2009, fifteen years ago.

In an interview with the BBC, the multi-talented artist discussed their joint project “Scream” from 1995, which marked Michael’s significant comeback following the accusations of child sexual abuse in 1993 that left a profound mark on his personal life and professional journey.

The award-winning musician, currently on her “Together Again” tour, sang the song during the performance while video clips of her deceased brother played alongside. She mentioned that listening to him each night and seeing him again stirred strong emotions, reminding her of their shared past.

Born in Gary, Indiana, this entertainer recalled writing the track with her deceased brother in New York City, specifically at his apartment.

Janet mentioned that she often finds herself re-experiencing the entire voyage while listening to him perform, and remembering the struggles he faced during that period as he worked hard to restore his standing and profession, battling the harmful allegations against him.

Janet explained, ‘Being his little sister, I’ve always been near him, providing support. That’s the part I’ve always played.’

In the song, Michael expressed his annoyance over the consequences of the accusations and the way the media handled the matter. The lyrics went: ‘I’m fed up with unfairness, I’m fed up with your tricks/ Your deceit is revolting/ So, what’s the point, for heaven’s sake?’

In her self-named 2022 Lifetime documentary series, titled “Janet”, she mentioned about her deceased brother, Mike, saying, “He was dealing with many difficulties, and I believe those struggles were affecting him greatly.

17 weeks ago, my favorite song climbed up to the fifth position on the Billboard Hot 100, and it’s still going strong. To top it off, I was thrilled when it won the Best Music Video award at the 1996 Grammy Awards!

In the monochrome music video, the renowned duo showcased their talent by playing together. According to Janet, as revealed in the documentary series, coordinating this performance was intricate since the music business figures aimed to separate them.

In 2022, Janet expressed, “Michael worked at night, while I worked during the day.” She explained further, “His recording company would isolate his entire shooting location, preventing me from observing the process. They preferred to keep me away from the set.

It seemed as though they were intentionally creating a highly competitive atmosphere for us both. This was painful for me because I perceived our shared experience as one in which we were jointly engaged in a struggle or challenge, rather than competing against each other.

In simpler terms, when it came to creating the video together, Janet’s feelings of nostalgia related to working with her sibling didn’t live up to her expectations during the production process.
