Perry Farrell has apologized publicly for a second time regarding his on-stage attack on Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro during a concert last year.
During a concert in Boston in September 2024, the 66-year-old singer, who has led the rock band since the 1980s, had a heated argument with Navarro.
During their song “Ocean Days,” Farrell walked over to Navarro and punched him, immediately starting a fight in front of the audience.
The band quickly announced it was cancelling the rest of its tour stops in the U.S. following the incident.
On Wednesday, Colin Farrell shared a message with his fans on Instagram, starting with a greeting to everyone in Boston and worldwide.
I want to talk about what happened on stage last year. After thinking about it, I realize I didn’t react in the best way.

The singer said they were sorry to the audience and band for getting angry and interrupting the performance.
He shared that the band has been the most important part of his life ever since they first came together in Los Angeles in 1985.
Honestly, this band… it’s everything to me. The music we’ve created, the incredible people who come to our shows, and knowing we’ve actually made a difference in music and culture… it’s a feeling I just can’t put into words. It means more than anything.
Farrell concluded his statement by saying he’s always aimed to deliver a show that’s authentic, uplifting, and truly great for fans.
The musician apologized to everyone affected by the fight that happened on stage during the band’s concert in Boston.
I sincerely thank all of you for your ongoing love and support. – Perry Farrell
During last year’s performance where the incident happened, things had been tense all night. Several people who saw what happened said Farrell began yelling at Navarro while they were playing the song “Mountain Song.”
During Ocean Days events, Farrell was seen approaching his bandmate and unexpectedly punching him, seemingly surprising Navarro with the sudden attack.

The band members walked onto the stage and, with the help of bassist Eric Avery, managed to pull Farrell away from Navarro.
The lights quickly became dim, making it difficult for the audience to see, and the band soon left the stage.
Navarro, Avery, and drummer Stephen Perkins returned to the stage, waving to the excited crowd who responded with loud cheers.
Immediately following the concert, Navarro announced that Jane’s Addiction was cancelling the rest of their tour.
Navarro announced that the band is canceling the rest of its U.S. tour because of Perry Farrell’s ongoing health issues and recent behavior. They stated they had no other option.
We’ve made a difficult decision based on concerns for his well-being and our own safety. We sincerely hope he gets the support he needs.
The musician said they were very sorry that they couldn’t perform for the fans who had already purchased tickets.
We’ve unfortunately reached the difficult decision to stop performing. We don’t believe we can consistently create both a safe show for everyone and the high-quality performance our audience deserves. This wasn’t an easy choice, and we’re deeply saddened by it. – Dave, Eric, and Stephen

Following the altercation, Farrell publicly apologized for what he called a ‘very challenging’ weekend.
After taking some time to think things through, I want to sincerely apologize to my bandmates, particularly Dave Navarro, as well as to our fans, my family, and friends, for what happened during Friday’s performance.
I reached my limit and acted badly, and I fully accept responsibility for my actions.
Farrell’s wife, Etty Lau, explained that Perry got upset because he felt like his voice wasn’t being heard over the rest of the band.
Instead of letting people guess what happened during the performance, I wanted to share my own experience directly on Instagram.
I’ve been hearing that Colin Farrell was really struggling recently. Apparently, his wife mentioned he’d been battling tinnitus and a nightly sore throat. He also felt like the music on stage was just way too loud, and he couldn’t even hear himself sing over the band. It must have been awful for him, trying to perform under those conditions.
She said there was conflict and friction between the band members, but that these very disagreements were also what made the band so energetic and exciting.
Jane’s Addiction started in Los Angeles in 1985 and has experienced a lot of conflict throughout its history, including onstage fights and several splits.

As a longtime friend, I’ve been really worried about Matthew Perry for a while now. Last September, a source close to him told the Daily Mail that he was really struggling and things were getting out of control. It was heartbreaking to hear that people were starting to distance themselves because they were so concerned for him.
The insider also said that both Farrell and Navarro have dealt with issues for many years.
The conflict between him and Dave started when Dave became a member of the band in 1985. Dave has left and rejoined the group several times, and Perry has consistently been unhappy about it.
A separate source told the Daily Mail that Farrell is aware his behavior had ‘gone too far.’
Perry is deeply upset by what happened and now understands he should have taken care of himself sooner. He’s exhausted, and it’s clear his health, both physical and mental, has suffered because he waited too long.
He really wanted to do a good job on tour with the band, but he’s disappointed that things didn’t work out and feels he’s let people down.
Navarro, Avery, and Perkins are suing Farrell for at least $10 million, following a public incident involving the singer last year. This news came to light in July.
According to TMZ, the band members filed a lawsuit against Farrell, claiming he caused them emotional distress, acted negligently, and broke their contract.

According to Farrell’s lawyers, this incident is another instance of the band members ganging up to unfairly target and harass frontman Perry Farrell, as reported by the Daily Mail.
It’s no surprise this lawsuit was filed now – they clearly learned we were preparing to take legal action against them and responded quickly.
Farrell’s lawyers stated that the lawsuit filed by his bandmates is a clear effort to shape public opinion and portray themselves as the victims – a tactic they consider expected and unoriginal.
Similar to their previous actions – when they falsely claimed Perry had mental health issues and canceled his tour without consulting him – they’re now rushing to control the narrative and protect their reputation.
