Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell breaks silence on dramatic fight with bandmate Dave Navarro that forced band to cancel tour

On Monday, Navarro disclosed that the band was canceling their upcoming tour dates due to Farrell’s mental health issues, which arose following an altercation between them during a performance in Boston on Friday.

65-year-old Farrell has expressed regret to his bandmates and supporters over his unforgivable actions.

Over the past weekend, things proved extraordinarily challenging, and after giving myself time to ponder and reflect, it is only fair that I extend an apology to my bandmates, particularly Dave Navarro, our fans, loved ones, and friends for my behavior during Friday’s performance, as reported by Variety.

He found out that his limit was exceeded, leading to actions that were unacceptable. He fully acknowledges and accepts responsibility for his response to the situation.

Previously, Etty Lau, his spouse, attempted to justify Farrell’s actions by stating that he felt overshadowed due to his bandmates playing their music too loudly.

Onlookers reported that Farrell started to loudly express himself towards Navarro during the song ‘Mountain Song’, and this heated exchange culminated in a disagreement during ‘Ocean Size’.

Guests commented that Farrell carried a large bottle of wine throughout the entire event. Navarro and Avery engaged in continuous conversation during the performance, appearing more irritable than usual.

The show in Boston came a week after the band played two sets in New York City, as part of a reunion tour after the group got back together for the first time in 14 years earlier this year.

During the initial NYC concerts, Farrell admitted to the audience at Pier 17 that his condition wasn’t ideal for the shows. Witnesses suggested a tense dynamic among the band members, hinting at potential disagreements.

Farrell told the crowd: ‘Ladies and gentlemen, I have to be honest with you. Something’s wrong with my voice. I just can’t get the notes out all of a sudden.’

After the performance, bassist Eric Avery shared on Instagram his excitement about returning to that magnificent rooftop location later tonight. He expressed confidence that our performance would improve.

In a review from CL Tampa the week before Friday’s outburst, a critic wrote that Farrell ‘struggled’ and ‘spiraled’ when the band began playing ‘Mountain Song’ after ‘chugging from a full bottle of wine’.

The review stated that he started speaking incoherently about cow pastures, mushrooms, and politics, and it was only when Navarro strummed a forceful, high-pitched note on his guitar, seemingly to quiet down Farrell and resume the performance, that he stopped.

In the assessment penned by Gave Echazabal, it was pointed out that during performances, Farrell seemed to be taking sips from a bottle of wine, which appeared to be a challenge for him as he attempted to match the pace set by his fellow heavy-metal band members.

In a post by Echazabal, it was stated that Farrell’s performance was either too late or poorly coordinated, making it challenging to associate his subpar showing with the impressive, unyielding force the band was exuding collectively behind him.

After observing how captivated Farrell was by the wine bottle, it seemed as though he might have opened more than one bottle during the evening.

On Monday, Navarro, 57, told fans the tour would no longer continue.

Based on persistent actions and psychological challenges faced by our artist Perry Farrell, it has become necessary for us to end the ongoing U.S. tour, as stated by Navarro.

He went on to say, “His well-being and ours is at stake, so we don’t have another choice. We wish him all the best in finding the assistance he requires.

Apologies to those of you who purchased tickets, but unfortunately, we can’t fulfill our commitment to everyone due to the challenges we face. It’s impossible for us to guarantee safety on stage or consistently provide an outstanding show each night.

Navarro signed off the statement with a heartbreaking message, adding: ‘Our hearts are broken. Dave, Eric and Stephen.’

This was the first tour in 14 years that featured the band’s original lineup.

In 1985, a band hailing from Los Angeles was established, and they embarked on a ‘goodbye’ tour as early as 1991. However, bandmate Eric Avery parted ways with the group in a contentious manner in 2010.

Dayle Gloria, a club promoter in LA and a fan of the band, who assisted in their discovery back in 1986, shared his feelings with DailyMail.com, stating: ‘It’s heartbreaking to witness Perry Farrell’s breakdown, as it is for those of us who are passionate about the band.’
