Jane’s Addiction band members suing frontman Perry Farrell for $10M over onstage brawl
The members of the band Jane’s Addiction – Dave Navarro, Eric Avery, and Stephen Perkins – are allegedly filing a lawsuit against their lead singer Perry Farrell for at least $10 million in compensation due to his highly publicized, violent outburst that occurred on September 13.
58-year-old guitarist has filed a lawsuit against the volatile 66-year-old, alleging assault, battery, emotional distress, negligence, and breach of contract. This is due to an incident where he was physically attacked during their live performance of Ocean Size in 1988 at Leader Bank Pavilion in Boston, MA, as the assailant threw punches at him on stage.
According to TMZ, a 60-year-old bassist and a 57-year-old drummer have filed a lawsuit against Perry, alleging emotional distress, negligence, and a breach of contract.
During the scuffle, Farrell loudly and angrily confronted Dave, shoving him forcefully, and then aggressively approached him, all while Navarro cautiously stepped back with his right arm outstretched.
In the fight video, Farrell started yelling furiously at Dave, pushing him hard, and then moving towards him aggressively. Meanwhile, Navarro took a step back with his arm raised to protect himself.
In the aftermath, the singer from Queens took a swing at Navarro. However, their guitar technician, Dan Cleary, intervened, stepping between them, while crew member Kevin managed to restrain Perry.
The ex-member of Red Hot Chili Peppers claimed on TMZ that Ferrell allegedly hit him in the face during a backstage altercation, and he was considering leaving the band. Additionally, he said that Ferrell had asked him to reschedule his March 29th wedding with his fourth wife Vanessa Dubasso so more tour dates could be added.
For 23 years, the wife of Lollapalooza’s founder, Etty Lau Farrell, asserted that he was experiencing tinnitus and a sore throat. She stated that he was shouting merely to be heard above the ‘deafening’ level of the musicians’ performances.
The ex-backup dancer, aged 50, additionally asserted that Eric reportedly held Perry in a head restraint, and struck him thrice in the abdomen when the stage was dim, following Farrell’s assault on Dave.
It appears that Jane’s Addiction disbanded permanently after an incident, leading them to cancel the rest of their 32-date North American Tour only three days afterwards, as they were five-time Grammy nominees.
Based on persistent behavioral patterns and the ongoing mental health struggles faced by our artist Perry Farrell, it has become necessary for us to cancel the ongoing US tour, as stated by Navarro, Avery, and Perkins on Instagram.
I’ve been utterly consumed by my devotion, and for the sake of his wellbeing and ours alike, we’ve been compelled to make a difficult decision. I earnestly pray that he finds the assistance he desperately needs. Alas, I can find no viable course of action that guarantees a secure setting on stage or consistently delivers an exceptional performance night after night. My heart is shattered by this predicament.
In a statement made directly to Billboard, the acknowledged pioneer of alternative music extended sincere apologies to his band members, particularly Dave Navaro, fans, relatives, and acquaintances, for any inappropriate behavior displayed during the concert on Friday.
‘Regrettably, under pressure, I reacted in a manner that was unacceptable. I acknowledge and accept responsibility for my actions in dealing with the situation.’
Back in 1988, Jane’s Addiction disbanded following negotiations where Perry, the group’s founder from 1985, secured 62.5% of the songwriting rights and earnings. The other original band members shared the remaining percentage.

In 2018, Eric acknowledged to Billboard that it was understandable why he might have desired a larger share rather than an even split.
‘Perry has consistently moved ahead since then. Regarding financial matters, he shows a notably self-centered attitude. I recall vividly that Dave once wore a shirt reading “12%” or similar at one of our concerts afterwards, symbolizing the small portion he would get in Perry’s system. This created some lingering ill feelings, undeniably.’
Dave stated: ‘It undoubtedly created tension among Perry and the rest of us. When someone claims superiority over the group, it inevitably causes friction. We all found it offensive, yet in the end, we managed to resolve the issue.’
On the 3rd of January, Avery shared a video featuring him composing fresh lyrics over some of Stephen’s drum beats. He also expressed excitement about incorporating Stephen’s talent in his work, saying: “Can’t wait to infuse some Mr. Navarro magic into them. See you in 2025!
Last month, Navarro hinted that their latest music could have ties to their 1993 spin-off band, Deconstruction, by revealing an old promotional poster from the past.
On Wednesday, Etty Instastoried a snap of the couple kissing in France.
