Jane Lynch Roasted A Former Glee Star For Looking Too Old To Play A High Schooler, But That Wasn’t Even My Favorite Part Of The Glee Reunion

Be warned, this contains spoilers for the first episode of *Celebrity Weakest Link*, which premiered on Fox on September 15th. The episode will be available to stream the next day with a Hulu subscription.

Jane Lynch is known for playfully teasing contestants on *The Weakest Link*, and the recent premiere of *Celebrity Weakest Link* showed that even celebrities aren’t safe from her wit. Fox created a special episode by inviting eight of Lynch’s former *Glee* colleagues to compete, resulting in plenty of jokes and references that *Glee* fans would appreciate.

The funniest moments of the episode, for me, happened right at the beginning. Lynch playfully teased an actor for looking older than their teenage character and another for missing a simple question. The scene included Max Adler, Becca Tobin, Alex Newell, Chord Overstreet, Heather Morris, Amber Riley, Dot-Marie Jones, and Jenna Ushkowitz.

Max Adler Looked Too Old For High School

Since the *Glee* reunion happened on a charity game show, Jane Lynch understandably avoided mentioning the issues with Lea Michele or the sad loss of Naya Rivera. Instead, she playfully joked about the show, like the time the cast did the “Gangnam Style” dance, Will Schuester’s often-awkward rapping, and Max Adler’s portrayal of Dave Karofsky. Just before Adler was eliminated from *Celebrity Weakest Link*, he had this conversation with the host:

  • Jane Lynch: “Can I just say you were the oldest-looking junior in high school? I mean, you were like shaving two times a day back then.”
  • Max Adler: “Oh yeah, they were filling in the bald spot. It was a whole thing.”
  • Jane Lynch: “Well, I’m bored with this subject now.”

Okay, it wasn’t the *meanest* put-down ever on *Weakest Link* – or anything Jane Lynch would say to the *Glee* kids – but honestly, it was good to hear someone finally say what I always noticed. It’s pretty common for teen shows to hire actors who are older than their characters just so they can handle a full day of filming. But *Glee*? They didn’t even *try* to find people who looked like actual teenagers, you know?

While Max Adler played a high school student on *Glee*, he wasn’t the oldest actor to do so. He was 23 when he first appeared in 2009, having been born in 1986. Several other cast members were the same age, including Diana Agron, Lea Michele, Amber Riley, Jenna Ushkowitz, and Becca Tobin. Cory Monteith, Mark Salling, and Harry Shum Jr. were even older, all born in 1982. Ultimately, Adler just didn’t portray a believable high schooler as convincingly as some of his fellow actors.

Adler seemed to handle the teasing well, but he was mostly upset about being the first one eliminated after missing a question about *Friday Night Lights*. Luckily for him, his wasn’t the most infamous wrong answer from the *Glee* reunion episode of *Celebrity Weakest Link*!

Becca Tobin Is No Chicken Wing Expert

The people on *Celebrity Weakest Link* weren’t known for their cooking skills, but Becca Tobin’s answer to a question about Buffalo wings was one of the most hilarious parts of the show. Here’s what Jane Lynch asked her:

True or False: To be called Buffalo wings, they must contain at least 51 percent buffalo.

At first, I figured Tobin had gotten an easy question in the first round… but then she just answered with a questioning “True?” Jane Lynch looked like she was about to swear, and Chord Overstreet and Dot-Marie Jones were clearly shocked. Everyone laughed again when Jane brought it up later, and I have to admit, Tobin’s completely wrong answer was hilarious and made me burst out laughing.

Becca Tobin had a funny slip-up in the next round, even exclaiming her disbelief at herself after missing a simple question. Similar to Max Adler, she laughed it off when teased for not knowing the true ingredients of Buffalo wings (it’s all chicken!). Amber Riley ultimately won the episode, continuing her success in TV competitions – she previously won Season 17 of *Dancing with the Stars* in 2013 and Season 8 of *The Masked Singer* in 2022, calling the latter a truly valuable experience.

If you didn’t get a chance to see the episode, or just feel like revisiting these actors’ time on *Glee*, you can stream both shows with a Hulu subscription. *Glee* is also available on Disney+.
