Jane Austen’s classic period drama announces exciting new movie adaptation

Jane Austen’s classic period drama Sense and Sensibility is getting a new movie adaptation.

In simpler terms, the 1811 novel recounts the tale of the Dashwood sisters, who find themselves financially vulnerable and thus aim to secure their future through marriage, following an unexpected loss of their family’s wealth.

Back in the ’90s, I had the pleasure of experiencing a big-screen adaptation of this tale, featuring none other than the brilliant Kate Winslet, Emma Thompson, Hugh Grant, and the unforgettable Alan Rickman. What a cast!

It’s been announced that Georgia Oakley will helm a fresh take on “Sense and Sensibility,” with Daisy Edgar-Jones from “Normal People” in the lead roles.

Daisy has been chosen to play the role of Elinor Dashwood, the eldest sister, and it remains unannounced who will portray her younger sibling, Marianne.

For the screenplay of the upcoming Working Title Films and Focus Features production, acclaimed author Diana Reid will be the one to write it. Previously, she has penned works such as ‘Signs of Damage’ and ‘Love & Virtue’, among others.

These two production companies, Focus Features and Working Title, have collaborated not only once but twice. They teamed up for the 2005 adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel “Pride and Prejudice,” and then again in 2020 for another Austen adaptation titled “Emma.

The publication reports that production on Sense and Sensibility will begin next month in the UK.

On her Instagram account, Daisy playfully hinted at something by posting a self-portrait where she’s seen reading Jane Austen, accompanied by a sideways glance emoticon as the title.

The Netflix series version of “Pride and Prejudice” is also preparing for filming.

The script for this project is currently being penned by the talented author Dolly Alderton, best known for “Everything I Know About Love.” At present, we don’t have any updates regarding who will be joining the cast.

The novel “Pride and Prejudice” narrates the blossoming romance between Elizabeth Bennet, the eldest daughter in their family, and a wealthy nobleman called Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy.

In the year 2022, Netflix produced a movie based on Jane Austen’s 1817 novel “Persuasion,” with Dakota Johnson in the lead role.

The debut print edition of Digital Spy’s magazine, “British Comedy Legends,” is available! You can purchase it from your local newsagents or online for only £3.99.
