Jamie Theakston shares a rare update following stage one throat cancer diagnosis

As I delve into the inspiring tales of Kris and Jamie, two extraordinary individuals who have faced adversity with unwavering courage and zest for life, I find myself profoundly moved by their stories.

On Tuesday, Jamie Theakston posted an uncommon message on his social media platforms after receiving a stage one throat cancer diagnosis.

The Heart Radio presenter, 53, announced he had been diagnosed with the disease two weeks ago, after listeners had noticed there was something not quite right with his voice.

On Instagram Stories, Jamie expressed his admiration for Kris Hallenga in anticipation of her upcoming BBC documentary titled “Living Every Second”. This film chronicles her life after being diagnosed with stage four breast cancer at the young age of 23.

Unfortunately, the founder of CoppaFeel!, who was only 38 years old, passed away in May of this year, despite initially being told she had only two more years to live.

Promoting the documentary, Jamie re-posted the trailer ahead of its release on BBC2 at 9PM.

In a new development, Maren, Kris’s twin, announced that a unique movie about Kris is set to broadcast on BBC2 next Tuesday, October 1st, starting at 9 pm.

Living Every Moment: The Journey of Kris Hallenga

The movie portrays a life that transcends diagnosis, skillfully encapsulating Kris’s authentic character – candid, exposed, resilient, yet never devoid of humor and a dash of playfulness. Her intention was for this film to shed light on the unspoken, to juxtapose death with life, and to foster meaningful discussions.

I’m incredibly thankful to Neil and October Films for keeping their promise and creating a movie that Kris would certainly be proud of.

She encourages you to watch this movie, hoping it will inspire and lift your spirits through her vibrant zest for life. She also suggests considering a brighter outlook on even mundane aspects of life like personal habits, such as seeing them in a more glamorous light. And, of course, don’t forget to check on yourself, particularly your health (breasts). Best, Mar x.

Originally diagnosed with incurable secondary breast cancer in 2009, Kris from Cornwall was initially told she only had about two more years to live.

She taught a generation how to make sure breast cancer is diagnosed early and accurately, while determined to face her illness head-on.

In a statement issued on X in May, CoppaFeel! announced with great sorrow that their beloved founder, head of all things related to breasts, valued team member, cherished friend, and ruler of sparkling trinkets, Kris, has passed away.

Kris embodied a spirited, joyful, and courageous attitude towards living, demonstrating that one can truly savor every moment of life, even when battling cancer.

Kris and her identical sister Maren brought their charitable organization, CoppaFeel!, to remarkable success by developing examination tools, displaying it on the Houses of Parliament, and being the pioneers who showcased the first nipple image on an outdoor advertisement.

The charity has a huge following on social media and encourages woman to check their breasts for signs of cancer.

Kris is renowned for writing the popular book “Glittering A Turd,” where she shares her journey of finding meaning in life after receiving a death prognosis.

Hi there! I wanted to share some personal health updates with all of you. Two weeks ago, I underwent a procedure to excise a growth on my vocal cords, which turned out to be laryngeal cancer – a type of cancer that affects the voice box. I’m staying positive and focusing on my recovery, and I’ll keep you posted as I move forward. Take care!

The biopsy results confirm it’s Stage 1 Laryngeal cancer. However, remember, I have the cancer, not the other way around!

‘The prognosis is very positive and I’m hoping to be back with you in October.

For now, I have been advised to take a break from speaking and let JK and Amanda handle things for the most part, since they are quite competent.

‘Huge thanks to them and all the Global family who have been unbelievably supportive.

‘Be thankful for this day, and when I see you next, I’ll have a great story to tell.’

On September 1st, Jamie mentioned that he had sought medical attention as some listeners had pointed out that there seemed to be an issue with the sound of his voice.

As per NHS guidelines, indicators of laryngeal cancer may include vocal changes like hoarseness, discomfort during swallowing, noticeable neck lumps or swelling, prolonged coughing or shortness of breath, chronic throat or ear pain, and in extreme instances, breathing difficulties.

In the UK, there are more than 2,000 new cases of laryngeal cancer each year. The condition is more common in people over the age of 60, and it’s more common in men than women.

Jamie, who’s married to Sophie Siegle, posted on Instagram: “A number of you listeners have pointed out that my voice hasn’t been sounding quite right over the last few weeks – I owe it all to you!

‘Got it checked. Doctors found a lesion on my vocal chords which I’ve had removed this weekend – thanks for all the kind messages – should be back on my feet soon – in the meantime…’ and finished the post with a zip-up mouth emoji.

Earlier posts on Heart FM’s Instagram have shown fans voicing worries about Jamie’s vocal health. A comment underneath a video from August 22 reads: “Jamie, it seems like you should take care of that sore throat of yours.
