Jamie Theakston reveals he told Beyoncé to ‘leave him alone’ after she tried to set him up with Destiny’s Child bandmate Kelly Rowland backstage at Top Of The Pops
It was disclosed by Jamie Theakston that Beyoncé attempted to arrange a meet-up between herself and Kelly Rowland, who is both a Destiny’s Child bandmate and close friend of Beyoncé, during their time backstage at Top Of The Pops.
As a lifestyle expert reflecting on past events, I recall myself, back in the early 2000s, advising a renowned singer to maintain some distance from a particular individual, following my role as a presenter of a popular BBC music program. This advice was given during an instance where I observed her attempting to play cupid in a situation that wasn’t entirely appropriate.
On Monday, Jamie caused quite a stir among co-hosts Amanda Holden and Ashley Roberts, leaving them speechless, when he pondered about the potential changes in his life if he had partnered with Kelly, during his Heart Breakfast Show.
While Amanda was astonished by Ashley’s casual mention of influential people, Ashley initially thought he was joking until curiosity compelled him to ask for additional information.
Jamie mentioned that Destiny’s Child appeared on Top of The Pops, and while he conversed with Beyoncé, she inquired, “Are you taken?
It’s hazy to me how the conversation started, but Beyoncé remarked, “Oh, you two would be great together since Kelly’s single,” to which I responded, “Stop it!” Feeling a bit embarrassed, I told her, “Beyoncé, please leave me alone.

Although Beyoncé made significant attempts, Jamie Knowles ended up marrying Sophie Siegle in the year 2007. Their family consists of two boys, Sidney (age 17) and Kit (age 16). On the other hand, Kelly Rowland, aged 44, tied the knot with talent manager Tim Wetherspoon in 2014. They too are parents to sons Titan (aged ten) and Noah (aged four).
TopMob have contacted Beyoncé’s reps for comment.
Following Jamie’s disclosure, it was revealed that he had hidden his potential cancer diagnosis from his cherished spouse Sophie for several weeks while they were on a family vacation in Japan.
The television presenter, now cancer-free, admitted that he was taken aback by the diagnosis and made an effort to keep it hidden during their family trip with his sons, so they could have a good time together.
In October 2024, it was revealed that Jamie had been diagnosed with stage one cancer of the larynx (voice box), following concerns raised by listeners about his voice sounding unusual. This particular form of cancer impacts the voice box.
On Davina McCall’s most recent episode of Begin Again, Jamie shared that he unexpectedly needed urgent scans mere hours prior to departing on their much-anticipated family flight.
He stated, “I didn’t share my concerns with anyone because at the time, I believed, perhaps it wasn’t cancer. Therefore, I saw no real need to discuss it. Instead, I chose to keep quiet about it, thinking to myself, ‘It’s likely not so.’
Only after receiving the biopsy report did his fears about cancer get validated. “Then I had to return home to break the news to my wife,” he shared. She was visibly upset.

During our vacation, I carried a concern subtly with me. Nevertheless, we enjoyed ourselves immensely, although that worry lingered in the periphery.
In sharing this difficult news with my sons, I found it to be the most challenging aspect: ‘I had to make them understand that I would be alright, yet their youth made comprehension an uphill battle. When one tells a 14-year-old about cancer, they often perceive it as a certain death sentence.’
‘When I learned that my mom had passed away from cancer, my youngest son was with me. This means he understood the implications.’
In late 2022, I found myself mourning the loss of my dear mother. It brought me a strange sense of relief to know she passed before I received my cancer diagnosis. I couldn’t bear the thought of her learning about it; I believe it would have broken her heart. I still wonder how her spirit would have coped with such news.
During our conversation, he reminisced about when people pointed out that his voice sounded different: They commented on my voice seeming off, he shared. ‘I realized it didn’t sound right too,’ he added. ‘But I figured it was just a sore throat, nothing to worry about.’
However, a trip to an ENT (ear, nose, and throat specialist) turned the situation around dramatically. He examined my throat, and his expression changed as he said, “It appears to be quite likely cancer.” I inquired for clarification, to which he responded, “In most cases, it is indeed cancer, and we need to arrange for scans immediately.
Following the first procedure, doctors had concerns that cancerous cells might still be present, leading to subsequent operations being necessary. As he pondered, he realized that if too much of his vocal cord was removed during these operations, he could potentially lose his ability to speak again.
In the heart of January this year, I found myself back at Heart Breakfast, side by side with my exceptional co-host, Amanda Holden. After three surgeries, I triumphantly made my return, and it was all thanks to her unwavering support. ‘Amanda,’ I said, ‘you were nothing short of amazing.’ She relentlessly reached out to me, keeping the show afloat during my tough times. She truly is a force of nature.

After overcoming cancer, Jamie expresses that his recent health experience has significantly changed his perspective on life. He considers this tough time as a valuable gift and believes that there are beneficial lessons to be learned from hardships. In essence, he feels that he has grown as an individual due to his experiences.
I’m optimistic that this will help me grow as a more effective parent, possibly even enhance my skills as a broadcaster. It seems to be shaping me into a more improved individual overall.
Before cancer, he was quite traditional – he used a Filofax. Now he’s all about technology. His schedule is filled for weeks in advance. He tells people, “Let’s arrange a golf weekend in 2027.” He just likes to plan everything out because he can.
Regardless of his initial doubts, the potential outcome has left an indelible mark on him. He muses about informing one’s children about having cancer, then telling them it’s gone, and how these moments can reshape one’s perspective of their own future.
Tune in daily from 6:30 AM to 10:00 AM for Heart Breakfast, featuring Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden, broadcast throughout the UK and also available on Global Player.
