Jamie Oliver reveals his eight-year-old son River’s scathing comment about his success: ‘I felt I hadn’t worked hard enough!’

Jamie Oliver reveals his eight-year-old son River's scathing comment about his success: 'I felt I hadn't worked hard enough!'

As a lifestyle expert with extensive experience in the culinary and family dynamics arena, I find Jamie Oliver’s story both amusing and inspiring. It’s intriguing to witness such a globally renowned figure as Jamie, who has revolutionized cooking for millions, being put in his place by his eight-year-old son River.

Jamie Oliver recently disclosed a critical remark made by his eight-year-old son, River, regarding his culinary achievements.

Over the last thirty years, the renowned culinary expert, aged 49, has achieved international acclaim through a multitude of TV shows, published cookbooks, and various restaurants.

Nevertheless, Jamie acknowledged that his son, a child he shares with wife Jools Oliver (age 50), doesn’t seem overly enthusiastic about the direction of his professional life.

Last evening, River unexpectedly asked me, “Dad, don’t you have a Michelin star?”, and I can’t for the life of me figure out where that question came from. This is something I mentioned during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show last Friday.

In response, I admitted, “To be honest, I’m more of a simple-food kind of person,” to which he seemed surprised and asked, “You’re not fond of gourmet cuisine?

Jamie laughed and admitted: ‘I actually felt like I hadn’t worked hard enough!’

Jamie Oliver, famously known as The Naked Chef, was a guest on the talk show, sharing the stage with actors Sigourney Weaver, Nicholas Hoult, comedian Lolly Adefope, and musician Chris Martin from Coldplay.

Apart from discussing other topics, he likewise shared insights about his latest cookbook titled “Simply Jamie.” He expressed his desire to inspire the younger generation to develop an appreciation for culinary arts.

With fewer people learning to cook in recent generations, there’s a growing need for guidance. I aim to support individuals in mastering cooking skills, minimizing food waste, saving costs, and making the most out of their meals.

Jamie shares River and four other children with Jools – who he married in July 2000 in Essex.

They are parents to Poppy, 22, Daisy, 21, Petal, 15, and Buddy, 13.

Buddy has chosen to follow in his father’s culinary footsteps, even releasing his own cookbook.

Jamie recently posted on Instagram, “Ever since Buddy was little, he’s been right by my side while I cook, and he always finds it exciting!

It’s truly delightful, as a father who enjoys cooking, to observe and participate in the development of fresh skills and culinary creations. Take a peek at the adorable photos of little Buds!

Previously, the teenager mentioned that his cookbook contains simple and accessible recipes. You won’t find any complicated or fancy dishes in there; instead, it includes easy-to-make options such as quick breakfast ideas, meatballs, pizza, and some delightful desserts.

‘I just hope people enjoy giving them a go.”

Jamie and Jools renewed their marriage in the Maldives in 2023 with their children.

The chef admitted he was initially ’embarrassed’ about the ceremony but ended up ‘probably enjoying [the day] more than anyone’

Speaking on the Newlyweds podcast he told hosts Jamie Laing and Sophie Habboo: ‘We were going to renew our vows at 20 years and then Covid happened.

At age twenty-three, the girls were preparing to depart for college, which made it seem as though our home’s cozy nest was beginning to disintegrate.

‘We’d never been on what you would call a posh holiday, so we went to the Maldives.

‘I was a bit embarrassed about the whole thing, if I’m really honest.

Initially, I didn’t find it particularly appealing, but once we arrived, my feelings changed dramatically. I believe I may have appreciated it more than anyone else present. The atmosphere was simply delightful.

This year, the pair renewed their vows again in Las Vegas, celebrating their 24th wedding anniversary.
