Jamie Lee Curtis shares emotional story of letter she got from Princess Diana shortly before her tragic death

On the 28th anniversary of Princess Diana’s untimely passing, Jamie Lee Curtis recounted a heartfelt tale nearly involving their encounter.

On Sunday, through a touching Instagram message, the actor who became famous for his role in Halloween shared that in 1997, the late royal had planned to visit the set of Fierce Creatures, which was the sequel to the movie “A Fish Called Wanda.

While they were shooting, the team was immersed deep within the forest at Pinewood Studios, and Curtis took a brief respite from filming.

She hopped into a golf cart and drove approximately a mile back to the area with the changing rooms, where she used the bathroom, as she noted in her writing.

As I waited briefly, it turned out to be an exciting moment when Princess Diana and her two lively princes, William and Harry, made their entrance onto the set.

According to Curtis, when he heard a knock on the door, it was his driver informing him that she had arrived with her boys. In a flash, he hopped onto the golf cart. Upon my return, she was already strolling away.

Despite not getting an opportunity for a personal meeting with the princess, Curtis promptly penned a heartfelt letter expressing his admiration and dispatched it to Kensington Palace. Incredibly, she received a response the following day.

Curtis remembered her expressing gratitude for my written communication, acknowledging that this was a frequent occurrence due to her frequent need to respond to nature’s calls, and she expressed eagerness about our upcoming meeting.

However, their rendezvous did not occur; tragically, just weeks afterward, Princess Diana met an untimely end in a car accident in Paris. She was only 36 years old when she passed away alongside her companion Dodi Fayed and the vehicle’s driver, Henri Paul, during this incident.

Curtis shared that she contemplated the distressing information using the perspective gained from a book about mindfulness meditation she was reading. This text encouraged that towards the end of life, individuals tend to reflect upon two essential queries: Have I lived with wisdom? Have I shown love genuinely?

Curtis expressed admiration by stating, ‘Right away, I found myself reflecting on Princess Diana and her wisdom in navigating life’s challenges.’

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I’d rephrase that statement as follows: “Just like the cherished image of Diana reaching out to her sons, displaying an unparalleled affection unique to royalty, she loved deeply – her love for the world was evident in every heartfelt gesture.

Despite the passage of time between that day and now, her grace, courage, and the love she embodied continue to touch me deeply. At the same time, it brings me peace to reflect on the fact that she led a thoughtful, insightful, compassionate life.

Curtis has previously reflected on the missed encounter, admitting it left a lasting impression. 

In an episode of Apple Fitness+ series “Time to Walk,” she shared the precise text of the message she sent to Diana following their close call.

I was absolutely ecstatic to meet you, as your work truly inspires me! Unfortunately, the call of nature caught me off guard – it seems they don’t respect schedules as much as we do. Little did I know that fate would bring us together at that very moment. I’m profoundly sorry for missing out on our encounter and can’t help but think highly of you!

To her surprise, Diana wrote back with warmth and humor.

Curtis, holding onto the letter, read out loud to his audience: ‘I’m regretful for not getting a chance to meet you too. I genuinely respect you, and it’s completely understandable if nature requires your attention – go for it! I eagerly hope we can cross paths in our lives someday. Wishing you the best always,’ is said to be the reply of the princess.
