Jamie Lee Curtis Returns Home After Devastating LA Fires: A Heartfelt Moment
After the heart-wrenching and destructive wildfires in Los Angeles two weeks ago, I’ve finally been granted permission to return to my abode nestled in the Pacific Palisades. The resilience of our community continues to amaze me as we rebuild and recover together.
66-year-old actress from The Last Showgirl posted a video on social media featuring a blue jay sipping water from a stone basin in her garden.
The contrast between a bird’s life, heavily impacted by the fires, didn’t go unnoticed by the actress playing Halloween character.
Or, more informally:
The bird’s struggle against the fires wasn’t missed by the Halloween actress.
‘We made it back to our intact house,’ her Instagram caption began.
In her message, she expressed gratitude towards the security teams and local helpers as she departed, then added a poignant observation – a striking bluebird served as a reminder of the thriving nature and wildlife within our canyon, somehow persisting amidst the devastating wildfire that had wreaked havoc with such brutal force.
Recently, Jamie made an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. During the show, he referred to the wildfires as extremely challenging and a truly unfortunate circumstance using colorful language, describing them as “tough” and “not good.
She shared that the place where she currently resides is currently ablaze. The entire city of Pacific Palisades is engulfed in flames. I arrived last night on a flight, and as I was in the air, I started receiving texts. It’s incredibly chaotic, you understand. It’s just a devastating situation unfolding in Southern California, she explained to Fallon.
In my own experience, from the market where I do my shopping, to the schools attended by my children, everywhere seems to be affected. Regrettably, an alarming number of my friends have found themselves displaced from their homes. Consequently, this situation is truly heart-wrenching.
Jamie went on to say: “Indeed, this is a truly difficult predicament. Tomorrow, I plan to return home promptly and offer support to my family and assist my friends in any way I can.
Just wanted to let you know, whether you know someone on the West Coast or not, consider supporting the American Red Cross. They do amazing work!
Additionally, Jamie demonstrated her dedication to her community by promising to donate $1 million from her family foundation towards the process of rebuilding after the fire.
She shared her commitment on Instagram, mentioning that she has already communicated with Governor Gavin Newsom about determining the most effective locations for these funds to be allocated.
In the ongoing battle against the flames, firefighting crews from both Cal Fire and the Los Angeles Fire Department, along with all the engaged first responders and relief organizations, continue their tireless efforts. Meanwhile, neighbors and friends are uniting to help one another in this challenging situation.
Together with my spouse and our kids, we’ve committed a million dollars from our family foundation towards establishing a charitable fund that aims to uplift and aid our beloved city, state, and its wonderful residents.
She mentioned that she is in contact with Governor Newsom, Mayor Bass, and Senator Schiff regarding deciding where the funds should be allocated for maximum effect.
Although the actress from Freaky Friday’s house wasn’t entirely destroyed, several structures within her community were, such as the church she attended and the facility where she found sobriety 25 years ago.
This is the church located in the Palisades, notable for its stunning Sunday school, school, and magnificent place of worship. It’s the structure where I found sobriety 25 years ago.
I often reflect on the countless individuals seeking peace, comfort, and solace there; the numerous baptisms, weddings, and funerals that took place; and the multitude of people who found a new lease on life through sobriety.
Moreover, the ladies’ sobriety group nestled within the Palisades was a sanctuary for me, filled with inspiring individuals who shared my path to abstinence. Regrettably, it’s no more. These are challenging days. Yet, we shall endure and press on. May blessings be upon each of you.
Two weeks ago today, both the Palisades Fire and the Eaton Fire ignited and rapidly spread through their communities.
Essentially, both Pacific Palisades and Altadena have suffered extensive damage due to two massive fires, driven by hurricane-force winds reaching speeds of 100 mph.
The winds made fighting the fire in the initial hours of the blazes nearly impossible.
The fires have claimed 27 lives and destroyed more than 13,600 structures.
Tens of thousands of people have been evacuated from their homes.
Firefighters based in Los Angeles are gearing up for a spell of strong winds forecasted across the area, which is set to last from Monday to Wednesday.
As of this writing the Palisades Fire is 52% contained and the Eaton Fire is at 87% containment.
