Jamie Lee Curtis announces she’s leaving X amid user exodus as Elon Musk joins Donald Trump’s cabinet
As someone who has battled and overcome addiction, I have learned the importance of accepting what I cannot change and focusing my energy on what I can. In light of recent events, it seems that Twitter (X) is no longer a place for honest debate and positive growth. I am Jamie Lee Curtis, and I have decided to deactivate my account in search of a more serene social media environment.
After Donald Trump won the presidential election, Jamie Lee Curtis was among the celebrities who chose to part ways with social media platform X.
On Wednesday, the actress who starred in Freaky Friday, aged 65, shared the news on a different social platform called Instagram.
Instead of others who chose to abandon their accounts on X (previously known as Twitter) following Elon Musk’s takeover, Curtis decided to deactivate her entire account instead of simply stopping updates.
It seems that the departure from X isn’t solely driven by stars with liberal views, such as Curtis, as evidenced by the fact that the rival social network Bluesky has now climbed to the number one spot in the Apple app rankings for social media.
Ever since the U.S. Presidential election, I’ve been glued to this exciting new service! Seems like it’s been experiencing a massive boom, with over 700,000 fresh users flocking to it, as reported by The Guardian just yesterday.
Curtis announced her news in an Instagram post featuring a screenshot that was apparently taken from her X account on her phone.
The message stated, ‘I’m sorry to inform you that your account has been disabled.’ At the bottom, in smaller text, it said, ‘#Farewell’.
Curtis, who has been open about her past struggles with drug and alcohol addiction, quoted the serenity prayer in her caption.
In her words about letting go of X, she expressed a prayer for:
Instead of explicitly explaining why she departed from the contentious platform, the Halloween star chose not to disclose her reasons. However, it is widely speculated that numerous users are leaving X due to Elon Musk’s close association with Donald Trump and his subsequent presidential victory.
After his victory, Curtis, who had backed Vice President Kamala Harris and the Democratic party during this month’s election, expressed his sentiments on Instagram.
Additionally, on Wednesday, TV journalist Don Lemon also shared that he was planning to depart from X too.
Contrasting myself with Curtis, I shared a statement about X, but left room for ambiguity regarding my future actions. I didn’t make it explicit whether I intended to delete my account entirely or just take a break while keeping my archive accessible for my supporters.
As a passionate devotee, I’ve cherished every moment interacting with each one of you on X. However, the time has come for me to bid farewell from this platform, as I embark on a new journey. This message was penned down, quite fittingly, on what appears to be a replica of The Don Lemon Show’s stationery.
He expressed his doubt that X is an environment suitable for open dialogue, truthfulness, disclosure, and the freedom of expression.
I made my choice based on the upcoming changes to X’s Terms of Service, effective this coming Friday, November 15.
The website is adopting a common practice among businesses by requiring lawsuits against it to be resolved either in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas or in state courts situated within Tarrant County, Texas.
Just as The Washington Post recently disclosed, X’s move to alter the terms is a game-changer since it appears to be strategically placing lawsuits in courts with a conservative leaning. This setup, according to legal experts, could potentially make it simpler for X to dodge legal issues and silence critics. Frankly, this situation seems pretty clear-cut to me.
He concluded his post with a list of his other social media accounts for fans to find him at, adding, ‘I hope you will join me there.’
On Tuesday, President-elect Trump revealed that entrepreneur Elon Musk will work alongside Vivek Ramaswamy to lead the as-yet unestablished Department of Streamlined Governance (DSG).
In other words, it might simply be a special committee instead of a new government department, because legislation from Congress is necessary to establish a new administrative body.
Earlier this year, it was planned for Lemon to become an employee at X and host his own news program. However, the program was scrapped by Musk following a heated meeting with the anchor, which was intended to be the first episode of the show.
As a die-hard devotee, I found myself shouldering a whopping sum of over two hundred thousand dollars in expenses, all in an effort to prep Lemon’s show for its grand debut – only to later discover that I was embroiled in a legal battle with the mighty Musk and X.
