Jamie Foxx’s Chilling Pre-Stroke Revelation: ‘What’s Gonna Happen to Me?’
Jamie Foxx has been open about his near-death experience related to the 2023 stroke he had.
Now, close to two years since the serious health crisis, the performer and vocalist is sharing insights into a strange discussion that took place right before brushing with mortality.
In an interview with People, while discussing his upcoming documentary ‘Number One On The Call Sheet’, Jamie Foxx, aged 57, shared, “It’s quite surprising! I was engaged in conversations with my team regarding my affairs when they inquired, ‘Jamie, would you like to quickly review some documents as a precautionary measure?’
Instead of saying “He would respond by asking his team, ‘What’s gonna happen to me?’ and then shortly after he suffered a brain bleed that led to the stroke,” you could rephrase it as: “He questioned his team about his fate, and soon afterwards, he experienced a brain hemorrhage resulting in a stroke.
Foxx exclaimed, ‘Poof! Disappeared,’ referring to losing consciousness and subsequently falling into a coma that lasted for several weeks.
The intense predicament arose for him while filming an action-comedy titled “Back In Action” alongside Cameron Diaz and Glenn Close in Atlanta, Georgia, during April 2023.
Speaking about his close encounter with death, the native of Terrell, Texas admitted that the experience was far removed from what he had ever envisioned as his final moments.
He compared it to a specific scene from the 1998 action-crime movie “Colors,” which featured Sean Penn, Robert Duvall, Maria Conchita Alonso, and Don Cheadle in prominent roles.
The Academy Award winner shared that they once believed watching the movie Colors would end up like a shootout scene for them, similar to Rocket’s character. They thought their ending would be dramatic, perhaps in a mall gunfight. Instead, they never imagined it would simply be asking for an aspirin before departing.
In December 2023, over seven months following his stroke and coma, Foxx announced during the acceptance of the Critics Choice Association’s Vanguard Award that he was unable to walk when he started his rehabilitation.
Overwhelmed by my fervor, I can’t help but confess that after the initial health predicament struck, I found myself in a state where I couldn’t recall the subsequent 20 days.
As a die-hard admirer, I can’t help but reminisce about the incredible outpouring of love and support I received following my ordeal and during my journey back to health. After waking up from my coma, it was as if the entire world had rallied around me, cheering me on every step of the way towards recovery. Django Unchained’s star, that’s me!
Later on, when the event transpired, the overwhelming outpouring of love, as well as the multitude of individuals who extended their support, held significant meaning for me,” Foxx expressed, revealing his thoughts upon discovering that he was still alive and aware.
In my conversation with [him], he mentioned, “Greetings, I’m offering you a fresh opportunity. How will you choose to utilize it?

At that instant, Foxx reflected: “I will bring more joy to people and I will make every effort to…
Since he was admitted to the hospital, he had to skip the final two weeks of filming for Back In Action. However, the studio and director, Seth Gordon, opted to utilize stand-ins for his remaining scenes instead.
Eventually, the Ray actor decided to share his close-to-death experience and his pledge to bring joy to others by developing his standup comedy special titled “What Had Happened Was…”. This production made its debut on Netflix last December.

The initial release date for it was scheduled on a major streaming platform for November 15, 2024, but later got postponed and is now set for January 17, 2025.
In the days ahead, Foxx plans to share some fresh humor with us, so he’s looking forward to hitting the road once more to do just that.
Additionally, he’s currently involved in three movies at different stages of completion: All-Star Weekend and Tin Soldier, in which he acts, and Geechee, where his role is limited to production duties.
His next project, titled “Number One On The Call Sheet,” is scheduled for release on Apple TV+ on March 28.
