Jamie Foxx Nearly Joined Fast & Furious As Major Villain In F9

Jamie Foxx was once considered to play a villain in the Fast & Furious movies, according to an idea that didn’t make it into F9. Many big-name actors, like Jason Momoa, John Cena, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, and Jason Statham, have become known for playing antagonists opposite Vin Diesel and the Fast & Furious crew.

The producers consistently aim high when choosing actors to play villains, and a new book, “Welcome To The Family” by Barry Hertz, reveals they really wanted Jamie Foxx to be in F9. They even wrote a scene after the credits, hoping to set him up as a future villain, but it didn’t work out.

The idea originated from conversations about the post-credits scene in F9. According to screenwriter Daniel Casey, they actually wrote multiple versions of those scenes, hoping to introduce villains for the tenth Fast & Furious movie. He says they created about eight different post-credit scenes, ultimately choosing the one featuring Jason Statham – even including actors who hadn’t appeared in any of the films yet, just in case they could be cast later.

I recently learned that Jamie Foxx was considered for one of the roles – apparently, his name was on a list of potential actors they were looking at. It’s a bit of a mystery how seriously they considered him, though. The book I read doesn’t say much about it, and I haven’t found anything to suggest he was ever officially approached. He’s never mentioned it himself, and nobody involved with the films has ever hinted at it either. It makes you wonder if he even knew he was in the running, or if he simply wasn’t interested.

Without Dwayne Johnson’s character in the film, the ending of F9 took a different turn. Originally, Gal Gadot was meant to reprise her role as Gisele in F9, but scheduling issues prevented that from happening. Instead, the filmmakers used the post-credits scene to bring Han (Sung Kang) and Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) together, which ultimately paid off in Fast X as part of the ‘#JusticeForHan’ storyline.

It’s interesting to consider what the original plan was for Jamie Foxx’s appearance after the credits. It seems he was intended to be the primary villain in Fast X. While Jason Momoa ultimately played that role, it wouldn’t have been a simple recast – Foxx was meant to play a different character, Dante Reyes.

The latest Fast X film reveals the new villain as the son of Hernan Reyes, who appeared in Fast Five. However, Jamie Foxx doesn’t physically resemble Reyes, leading many to believe his character was originally intended to be someone else entirely.

There’s still a chance the Fast & Furious movies could explore this idea. Unless the character has been completely changed, future films could always bring it back and try to include him.

It would be fun to see Jamie Foxx join the Fast & Furious franchise. He has a knack for making his characters incredibly cool, and his skills in both comedy and action would be a great fit. He’s charismatic enough to hold his own against Vin Diesel and really make a scene.

Since the Fast & Furious franchise has reused post-credit scene concepts in later movies, there’s nothing preventing Fast 11 or a future film from following F9‘s lead and adding Jamie Foxx to the cast, if he’s willing to join the series.

The new book, “Welcome To The Family: The Explosive Story Behind Fast & Furious,” which tells the story of how the blockbuster “Fast & Furious” movies became a worldwide phenomenon, is now available.
