The world of superhero movies, especially at DC, is going through some big changes. James Gunn, one of the heads of DC Studios, is building a brand new connected universe of films, starting with a series called “Gods and Monsters.” Everyone’s wondering who will play iconic characters in these new movies, and fans have already created some amazing artwork imagining Jamie Campbell Bower from “Stranger Things” as The Joker. Let’s take a closer look at what’s happening.
The first three DC Universe titles are now available on HBO Max, and fans are particularly interested in who will be cast as Batman and The Joker. It’s exciting to think about Jamie Campbell Bower as the Joker! While it’s just speculation right now, he looks fantastic in the costume. He’s proven he can play villains in shows like Stranger Things and the Twilight films, so he definitely has the experience for a major DC role. However, it’s still unclear if James Gunn is actually considering him for the part.
HBO Max offers streaming access to a vast library of movies, shows, documentaries, and everything DC Comics, including the DCU, DCEU, and classic titles. Plans begin at $10.99 per month for the Basic With Ads option.
Now that Stranger Things has finished, actor Jamie Campbell Bower likely has more availability. Playing The Joker in the new DC universe will be a major, long-term commitment for whoever gets the part. It’s still unclear when the character will first appear in these upcoming films and shows.
When the DC Universe was first announced, its initial list of projects didn’t include a movie specifically about The Joker. Whoever takes on the role will face a tough challenge, following in the footsteps of acclaimed actors like Heath Ledger and Joaquin Phoenix, both of whom won Oscars for their performances as the character.
We might see another Joker movie in a few years. Barry Keoghan briefly appeared as the Joker in The Batman, and fans are hoping he’ll be back for the sequel, Part II. However, Part II isn’t expected to be released until 2027, so it could be a while before we hear about any new casting.
The upcoming DC film Supergirl will be in theaters on June 26th, as part of the planned movie releases for 2026. Meanwhile, you can currently watch Jamie Campbell Bower’s complete performance as Vecna in Stranger Things on Netflix.
