James Wan announces filming has started on final The Conjuring film: ‘End of an era’
As a gamer who’s had more than his fair share of sleepless nights thanks to the chilling tales spun by James Wan and his crew, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and dread as I hear the news about The Conjuring: Last Rites. It’s been a decade since I first dived into this terrifying universe, and the thought that it might be coming to an end is bittersweet.
One of the most famous horror duos who have graced our screens over the past decade are set to star in their last movie, titled “ The Conjuring: Last Rites“. Director James Wan just announced on his Instagram account, “@creepypuppet“, that filming has officially begun for this fourth and final installment of the main series.
The photo shows chairs for Ed and Lorraine Warren, the infamous demonologists based on the real couple of the same name. Within The Conjuring Universe, Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson have played them in all three main films, starting with the 2013 film, along with making appearances in a few others, such as Annabelle Comes Home.
The message he shared is quite straightforward: Filming for the fourth movie, which will be called “The Conjuring: Last Rites”, has begun. Warner Bros. Pictures plans to release this film in cinemas on September 5, 2025.
As for the plot specifics of “Last Rites”, they haven’t been disclosed as yet. However, what we do know is that the film will be helmed by Michael Chaves, who has previously directed “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It” and other films within the cinematic universe such as “The Nun II” and “The Curse of La Llorona”. The screenplay for this movie is a collaborative effort by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, Ian Goldberg, and Richard Naing, with a story penned by Wan and Johnson-McGoldrick. Wan and Peter Safran are also producing the film together.
In addition to Farmiga and Wilson, Deadline earlier mentioned that the final movie would also feature Mia Tomlinson as Judy Warren, the daughter of Ed and Lorraine, and Ben Hardy as her husband, Tony Spera. Notably, Hardy is recognized for his roles as Roger Taylor in “Bohemian Rhapsody” and Oliver in the Netflix film “Love at First Sight.
Tomlinson is a rising star in the acting world. She has previously appeared in shows like “The Lost Pirate Kingdom” on Netflix and “The Beast Must Die” on Britbox.
