James Van Der Beek apologizes to loved ones who learned about his cancer via media
As a seasoned film enthusiast who has seen countless lives unfold on the silver screen, I must admit that the real-life stories of our beloved actors and actresses often leave me more spellbound than any scripted drama. The recent revelation by James Van Der Beek about his colorectal cancer diagnosis is a poignant reminder of this fact.
James Van Der Beek, known for his role in “Dawson’s Creek,” has expressed sorrow towards his dear ones as they found out about his colorectal cancer diagnosis via the news media instead of directly from him.
On a Sunday, I decided to use my Instagram platform to share a heartfelt message that had been weighing heavily on me. This message was about a recent medical diagnosis I’ve received. Initially, I chose People Magazine as the medium to break this news, and subsequently, I confirmed it to The Times and other media outlets through my representative.
I’ve been diagnosed with cancer… Every year, roughly 2 billion individuals worldwide hear the same news. Regrettably, I am among that number,” the 47-year-old expressed in their writing.
The actor famous for “Varsity Blues” and “Don’t Trust the B— in Apartment 23” expressed that there isn’t a specific guide for sharing such news, mentioning he had intended to discuss extensively with the magazine to share his story on his own terms. However, unexpectedly, his plans for this conversation took an abrupt turn on Sunday.
This morning, the plan needed to be changed after I learned that a tabloid would publish the news, Van Der Beek stated. I’ve kept this matter private until now, focusing on my health with more intensity than ever before. I’m in a good state and feeling strong. It’s been quite an experience, and I’ll share more when I feel ready to do so.
I’m sorry for not being able to share my news when I initially intended to. Things haven’t gone as I had hoped on my timeline, but life often has unexpected twists. Each surprise serves as a guide, leading us towards a destiny that might not have been revealed without some divine guidance. Please understand that my family and I are incredibly grateful for the love and support you’ve shown us.
Van Der Beek chose not to reveal the specific kind of colon cancer he was diagnosed with, yet expressed a positive outlook, telling People magazine, “There’s cause for hope.
Colorectal cancer is a type of cancer that can arise in the colon or the rectum, which are components of the large intestine. This cancer may also be called colon cancer if it begins in the colon, or rectal cancer if it originates in the rectum. These two types of cancer are frequently classified together because they share several similarities and are typically caused by the growth of harmful polyps within either the colon or the rectum.
Apart from skin cancers, colorectal cancer ranks as the third most frequently diagnosed cancer in both American men and women. Remarkably, the number of people being diagnosed with it has decreased since the 1980s, largely due to increased screenings and addressing lifestyle-related risks. The Society noted this decrease. As for survival rates, the National Institute of Health reports a five-year relative survival rate of 65%. Yet, this percentage can change based on the specific type of cancer, its location, and other factors.
As a fervent fan, I’m eagerly anticipating the upcoming appearances of Jared Van Der Beek. Having moved his family from California to Texas in 2020, he’s now set to star in two captivating projects. One is the Tubi Romance titled “Sidelined: The QB and Me,” while another is a December TV special called “The Real Full Monty.” In this unique event, Jared, along with other celebrities, will participate in a thought-provoking striptease to raise awareness about prostate, testicular, and colorectal cancer testing and research.
