James Packer shares rare update on his private life as he explains how ex-wife Erica is his ‘best friend’

James Packer has shared how he feels ‘lucky’ to lead the life he has.

In a recent interview with Rampart News, the billionaire businessman revealed he’s getting professional help for his mental health.

The 58-year-old shared that he’s been sober for two years and is receiving support from both a psychologist and a psychiatrist, adding that he’s currently doing well.

James Packer shared that he remains close friends with both of his ex-wives, Erica Packer and Jodhi Meares, and relies on them for emotional support.

I feel incredibly fortunate. I have three wonderful children, and even though my marriages didn’t last, I’m grateful for my two ex-wives as well, they are amazing people.

Oh my gosh, Erica? She’s like, my absolute best friend in the world. And she’s just the most amazing mum, seriously. I’m so lucky to have her! My own kids are growing up way too fast – 17, 15, and 13! They’re all living their lives in London now, and honestly, watching them become the people they are makes me burst with pride. I just adore them all!

‘I think I’m a very lucky person.’

Erica, formerly married to James Packer, now lives in London with her three children, having moved there to be closer to her sister.

The model co-parents children Indigo, Jackson and Emmanuelle with ex-husband James.

Erica and James got married in 2007 and divorced in 2013. They remain friendly and successfully co-parent their three children together.

After her divorce, she supposedly received $100 million and quickly bought a house in Los Angeles for her family.

Erica and celebrity chef Shannon Bennett ended their 18-month relationship in June. Their romance had been challenging due to the distance between them.

Shannon and her partner have nine children together. Shannon shares six of them – Phoenix, Hendrix, Xascha, Xanthe, Xahlia, and Margaux – with her former partner, Madeleine West.

Fashion designer Jodhi married James Packer in 1999, but they divorced in 2002.

The interview also covered Packer’s struggles with addiction, and he shared that he’s been sober for the past two years.

He described an incident in Aspen in 2016 where Kerry Stokes, then leaving his position as chairman of Seven West Media, discovered him in a severely distressed state.

Stokes stepped in to manage Consolidated Press Holdings during a financial crisis, and also intervened to call off the wedding between Packer and Mariah Carey.

Packer shared that he was facing immense business pressures, which led to significant debt and responsibilities, and unfortunately, he started drinking excessively as a result.

‘I was in a bad place.’
