As a dedicated fan of gripping dramas and captivating performances, I am absolutely thrilled about James Norton’s new ITV drama, “Playing Nice.” Having followed Norton’s career since his days on “Grantchester,” I can’t help but feel a sense of pride watching him take on such diverse roles. The confirmed release date of January 5, 2025, feels like an eternity away, but as they say, good things come to those who wait!
James Norton’s new ITV drama Playing Nice has been given a confirmed release date.
The premiere of this show is scheduled for Sunday, January 5, 2025, at 9 PM. You can catch it both on ITV and their streaming platform ITVX. Following episodes will be aired on Mondays and Sundays, always in the same time slot as the premiere.
If you’re eager to binge-watch the entire series at once, you’ll be able to find it compiled as a boxset on ITVX on that very same day.
Along with Happy Valley’s star, Norton, the cast of Playing Nice also includes Niamh Algar from Mary and George, James McArdle known for his role in Mare of Easttown, and Jessica Brown Findlay best recognized for her work in Downton Abbey.

As a gamer, I found myself immersed in the gripping narrative of “Playing Nice.” This game takes me on a journey where my family and I are confronted with a chilling predicament: we discover that our young children, thought to be our biological offspring, were accidentally swapped at birth.
After that, the couples must determine if they will take back their biological kids or choose to keep raising the boys they care for deeply.
Initially, they appear to be in agreement about the solution, but as time goes on, it’s evident that secret agendas are influencing their actions.
“How far can each couple trust the real parents of their child – or even each other?

Under immense strain, Pete and Maddie come to understand that they’ll go to great lengths to preserve the unity of their family.
Grace Ofori-Attah, a screenwriter known for Malpractice, has reworked the hit novel “Playing Nice” penned by JP Delaney.
More recently, Norton was featured in the Netflix movie titled “Joy“, a portrayal chronicling the groundbreaking invention of In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) and recounting the life story of the world’s first ‘lab-born baby’, Louise Joy Brown.
In the movie, the actor from Grantchester takes on the role of Robert Edwards, who was one of the scientists instrumental in the groundbreaking discovery.
Recently, Norton spoke candidly to Digital Spy regarding the crucial aspect he aimed to steer clear of while depicting a real-life individual.

Instead of beginning anew, it’s essential to respect the memory of that person, especially since Bob Edwards’ family continues to be present. This was his point.
I understood that this movie would likely be well-received by his family, and it’s important for us to respect his memory by doing so.
“[You’ve got to] do the work, find that energy and try to avoid mimicry.”
Norton emphasized that his method focused on capturing the “core” or true spirit of Edwards, rather than getting overly entangled in the task of recreating someone’s entire life.
Starts on ITV and ITVX at 9 pm on January 5th, “Playing Nice” – a series inspired by the JD Delaney novel. Further episodes will be broadcast each Monday and Sunday following this date.
