James Norton’s new BBC period drama gets first look and release update

As a gamer with a deep appreciation for historical dramas, I can hardly contain my excitement about the 2025 release of BBC’s “King & Conqueror.” With a stellar cast that includes James Norton and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, this series promises to be a captivating journey back to medieval England.

The period drama “King & Conqueror,” originally announced by BBC and featuring James Norton (“Happy Valley”), has officially set a 2025 release schedule, also sharing some initial photos of the cast.

Fresh images unveil Bryan Norton donning attire as his role, Earl of Wessex named Harold. Additionally, photographs show Nikolaj Coster-Waldau from “Game of Thrones,” portraying William, the Duke of Normandy.

Emily Beecham is depicted alongside Clémence Poésy in the promotional photos, with Beecham portraying the role of Edith Swan-neck and Poésy taking on the character of Matilda.

King & Conqueror” delves into a particular historical event, centering its narrative around Harold of Wessex and William of Normandy – two figures whose paths crossed dramatically at the Battle of Hastings in 1066.

The synopsis describes them as being “two allies with no design on the British throne” who then suddenly “found themselves forced by circumstance and personal obsession into a war for possession of its crown.”

In addition to the main cast, the eight-episode series boasts other talented actors such as Eddie Marsan from “Back to Black,” portraying King Edward, and Juliet Stevenson, who assumes the character of Lady Emma.

Luther Ford, Jason Forbes, Indy Lewis from Industry, Elander Moore from both Interview with a Vampire and Black Doves, as well as Elander Moore in KAOS on Netflix, are all part of the cast.

Currently, James Norton has a lot on his plate, with him being involved in both Steven Knight’s upcoming Netflix series titled House of Guinness, and the ITV show Playing Nice, which is set to premiere in 2025.

The British movie “Joy,” featuring Bill Nighy and Thomasin McKenzie, has recently become popular on Netflix.

King & Conqueror is coming to BBC One and BBC iPlayer in 2025.
