Netflix’s new historical drama, *House of Guinness*, features a talented cast including James Norton (known from *Happy Valley*), Fionn O’Shea (*Handsome Devil*), Dervla Kirwan (*Smother*), Anthony Boyle (*Masters of the Air*), Louis Partridge (*Enola Holmes*), Emily Fairn (*The Responder*), and Jack Gleeson (*Game of Thrones*).
This show takes place in 1800s Dublin and New York and tells the story of the Guinness family – the creators of Ireland’s famous Guinness beer.
The story begins following the death of Sir Benjamin Guinness, who turned his family’s brewery into a worldwide success, became Dublin’s first Lord Mayor, and rose to become the richest man in Ireland.

His will dramatically changed the lives of his four children. Beyond the family, many others – both personally and professionally – had a stake in their future and the family’s business.
In short, it sounds a bit like Succession but with pints.

As Norton described it, the show features plenty of beer, a quirky family, and compelling characters created by Steven Knight – all interacting in a dynamic and often intense way. He feels it’s a truly captivating experience.
Honestly, making this show was a blast! And the other actors were super helpful with my accent, which I really appreciated. We all had a great time working together.
He described the cast as a fantastic group, filled with Irish actors and plenty of Guinness. He jokingly pointed out that he was the only non-Irish person, yet he was playing the character who was most authentically Irish, needing to completely embody the Dublin spirit.

He also playfully joked that the show’s creator, Steven Knight, was performing at his peak and working incredibly well.
I just finished watching Norton in the BBC’s *King & Conqueror*, and he was fantastic! He played Harold Goodwinson, who starts out as a friend to the King, Edward the Confessor, but then things get complicated. Harold eventually decides he wants the throne for himself, and Norton really brought that ambition and conflict to life. It’s another great historical drama he’s been in!
House of Guinness is available to stream in full on Netflix now.
