The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has shared additional pictures of their forthcoming historical drama titled “King & Conqueror“, offering a glimpse into its ensemble cast.
Featuring James Norton and the actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau from “Game of Thrones,” this eight-part production is an epic portrayal of history, focusing on the struggle for the throne following the Battle of Hastons in 1066 between two powerful rulers.
This paraphrase maintains the original’s meaning and clarity while using more conversational language to make it easier for readers to understand.
In the upcoming series, Norton assumes the character of Harold, Earl of Wessex, who is destined to become King of England, while Coster-Waldau portrays William, Duke of Normandy, also known as William the Conqueror. As these two families vie for power, their stories will unfold.
The plot outlines: “In the year 1066, Harold of Wessex and William of Normandy, initially having no intention to claim the English throne, found themselves drawn into a battle for its control at Hastings. Their circumstances and personal drives unwillingly propelled them towards this conflict over the crown.

Though we’ve previously seen a trailer, these fresh images show Norton apparently taking a bath.
The latest images showcase Luther Ford portraying Tostig and Eddie Marsan as King Edward. In one of these pictures, it seems that Marsan and Coster-Waldau are engaged in a serious discussion during a banquet.
Completing our ensemble are Emily Beecham, Clémence Poésy, Juliet Stevenson, Elander Moore, Clare Holman, Bo Bragason, and Geoff Bell.

In a recent discussion, Norton shared his thoughts on the dynamic between Harold and William, a topic set to unfold in the forthcoming BBC series scheduled for release later this month.
As a gamer diving into a historical simulation, I hadn’t realized the deep bond shared by Harold and William before their fateful clash. You see, they were friends and allies for years, only to find themselves on opposing sides due to political turmoil in Europe that was bound to lead them onto the battlefield, with one of them tragically paying the ultimate price.” (Quote paraphrased from The Guardian interview with ‘Happy Valley’ star)
King & Conqueror premieres on BBC iPlayer and BBC One on 24 August.
