According to James Norton, he endured a rather painful injury while working on the set of “King and Conqueror”.
In simple terms, the new BBC show is set in 11th-century England and centers around King Harold, played by Bertie Carvel, who finds himself challenged for his throne by William the Conqueror, a power-hungry Frenchman from Normandy, portrayed by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.
The historical drama will be broadcast towards the end of this month. Before its premiere, Norton gave an interview to The Times and disclosed that he had fractured his collarbone when he fell off a horse while shooting scenes for the show.

During certain action sequences towards the end of filming, I let out some intense yells that sounded quite genuine, according to the director. In reality, I had fallen off a horse and landed on my shoulder, but surprisingly, I recovered quickly and was back on set in no time. Fortunately, we were able to manage the situation effectively, ensuring there were no delays in our shooting schedule.
“The clavicle heals rapidly; it was merely quite uncomfortable. Performing all the stunts myself proved challenging, but I had a fantastic stand-in who I shared a hospital room with. At one point, we both thought, ‘This is disastrous. Should we contact [executive producer] Kitty Kaletsky, or shall I?’

The film “King and Conqueror,” developed by Michael Robert Johnson and helmed by Baltasar Kormákur, features a strong supporting cast consisting of Clemence Poesy, Emily Beecham, Luther Ford, Eddie Marsan, and Juliet Stevenson.
In a prior announcement, Norton – holding a producer role for the series as well – hinted at the content of the upcoming drama, stating that it delves into the multiple elements culminating in the Battle of Hastings.

He shared with The Guardian that prior to the battle, he had been uninformed about the friendship and alliance between Harold and William. For numerous years, due to the division of Europe, it became apparent to them both that they would eventually find themselves in conflict as adversaries.
It’s surprising and almost unbelievable that no one else has attempted something like this before. This is part of the reason we spent such a considerable amount of time perfecting it, commented the actor who has been seen in shows like Happy Valley and The Trial of Christine Keeler.
King & Conqueror premieres on BBC iPlayer and BBC One on 24 August.
