James Norton makes candid confession about how gruelling stage role affected his relationship with ex-fiancé Imogen Poots as he admits break-up was not his decision

As a dedicated follower of the arts and human drama, I find myself deeply moved by James Norton’s recent confession about the impact of his intense acting roles on his personal relationships, specifically his relationship with Imogen Poots.

James Norton openly admitted that an intense stage performance he took on had an impact on his former fiancee, Imogen Poots, in a very honest disclosure.

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I find myself reflecting on the parting of two beloved figures in our entertainment sphere – both around the age of 40 – who decided to go their own paths prior to the festive season, with the news of their separation becoming public knowledge in February.

Currently, James has shared insights into how his intense involvement in the West End production of the play A Little Life, a dramatization based on Hanya Yanagihara’s novel about sexual abuse, influenced his romantic relationship with Imogen.

James expressed that he immersed himself entirely in his role, remarking, “If a job begins to encroach upon personal relationships, it may lead to an unhealthy situation. It dawned on me that I had neglected making room for others, and I grew frustrated by this.

Speaking to The Sunday Times, James also admitted their recent break-up was not his decision.

‘Some of the choices recently weren’t mine, yet I don’t feel begrudging,’ he said.

It emerged that James’ ex Imogen tried to keep their heartbreaking split a secret.

Although they parted ways towards the end of last year, the duo chose to maintain privacy about their separation. A source near them shared with TopMob that Imogen, for some unknown reason, preferred to keep their split confidential.

The bohemian actress had shared her thoughts earlier on not being prepared to decrease her pace, expressing her desire to explore various parts of the globe instead.

On the other hand, James has shared openly about his desire for a family, and three years ago, he confessed that his “urge to start a family” was becoming quite strong.

Imogen divides her days between New York and London. Previously, she emphasized that she had never experienced anything disintegrating because of the distance.

In an interview with The Evening Standard back in 2020, she shared that her work environment has always felt like her ‘happy place.’ She explained that since she’s been accustomed to this lifestyle since the beginning – packing up and moving on – it has become a part of who she is.

The innate restlessness within you has an alluring quality, and it seems I’m expected to settle down and perhaps start a farm or the like. Yet, I’m not prepared for such a change just yet. Instead, I crave to continue my journey of discovery around the world.

Earlier, James expressed that the release of his 2020 movie, “Nowhere Special,” where he portrayed a dying father of a three-year-old child, sparked his ambition to become a parent.

In 2021, he shared with The Guardian that he’s in his mid-thirties, and he’s long desired a family. His sister already has children, and to top it off, he feels an increasing urge (broody barometer) to start a family as well.

Last year, during an interview to publicize the final episode of Happy Valley, James expressed that his active acting career has its price – less time spent together. However, he and his partner are ready to bear this cost because they value the advantage of being with someone who understands their profession, who is understanding, and who is willing to give up their Sundays for a demanding self-taping session.

According to a source, the hectic professional schedules of James and Imogen have left little time for them to spend together, which appears to be a factor in their separation, as reported by The Sun.

Last year, they gradually drifted apart and decided to part ways. Both have found it challenging since then, but they’re persevering and carrying on with life as best they can.

Their romantic journey started back in December 2017, when they crossed paths during the performance of the play “Belleville” at the Donmar Warehouse.

2020 saw Imogen relocate to James’s apartment in London. They subsequently established their shared home, and following five years of dating, he proposed in February 2022.

Imogen was last seen with James at Wimbledon in July last year.
