James Norton and Bella Ramsey lead cast of new coming-of-age comedy
Actors Bella Ramsey and James Norton are set to join the ensemble of the upcoming comedy-drama titled “Sunny Dancer” along with several other talented individuals.
Under the guidance of director George Jaques, the film revolves around a diverse set of characters who spend their summer at a special camp designed for youth grappling with cancer.
In the role of a character named Ivy, the actress from The Last of Us finds herself portraying a girl who has gone into remission but harbors deep skepticism towards ‘Chemo Camp’. During her stay, she’ll be compelled to reassess her biases as she forms fresh connections, transforming the summer camp experience into an unforgettable chapter in her life.
Known for being a “heartfelt, growth-focused comedy romance with a touch of humor,” this movie stars Neil Patrick Harris alongside Jessica Gunning from Baby Reindeer, Ruby Stokes who was in Bridgerton, and Louis Partridge, previously seen in Enola Holmes.
Jacques expressed immense enthusiasm about having incredibly skilled individuals joining the team – true experts in their field – who will collaborate to make a movie that is both laugh-out-loud funny and emotionally impactful, according to Variety.
My goal is to make the audience laugh so hard they’ll cry, then genuinely weep, and ultimately leave with a new point of view on how the youth are perceived – not as helpless victims, but as brave, intricate, and vibrant individuals.
Sunny Dancer is set to begin filming in April and is expected to hit cinemas next year.
In the upcoming second season of the post-apocalyptic drama “The Last of Us,” airing in April, Ramsey will be back, reprising her role as Ellie.
In the latest installment, we introduce Abby, another major character from the original game. Actress Kaitlyn Dever portrays her role. Abby belongs to a distinct group of survivors, which makes Ellie view her as an adversary due to their conflicting allegiances.
In response to fans noticing that Dever’s physique is different from the muscular game version of Abby in “The Last of Us”, showrunners Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin discussed why this alteration suits the series better.
In this adaptation, Abby’s muscularity isn’t as significant due to fewer instances of intense, continuous action. Instead, it focuses on the dramatic aspects of the storyline. (Druckmann shared this with Entertainment Weekly)
Mazin believes that this situation presents a unique chance to explore a character who might be physically weaker than Abby from the game, yet their spirit seems to be exceptionally strong.
Sunny Dancer will be released in 2026.
