As a dedicated fan of British crime dramas with a soft spot for James Nesbitt’s gripping performances, I was thrilled to hear that Suspect, now available on Netflix, has joined the ranks of other captivating series like Happy Valley and Coronation Street. The fact that it’s based on a popular Danish noir series adds an intriguing layer to the plot, which is further bolstered by a top-tier cast including Anne-Marie Duff, Ben Miller, and Sacha Dhawan.
Actor James Nesbitt isn’t new to crime-based dramas, and starting August 1st, his 2022 series titled “Suspect” that originally premiered on Channel 4 is now available for streaming on Netflix.
In the new Harlan Coben series on Netflix titled “Missing You,” Nesbitt portrays Danny Frater, a seasoned detective who is diligently investigating the mysterious circumstances surrounding the demise of his estranged daughter.
The performance features an outstanding ensemble, comprising Anne-Marie Duff, beloved by “Death in Paradise” fans Ben Miller, Sacha Dhawan from “Doctor Who”, Sam Heughan of “Outlander”, Niamh Algar who shines in ITV’s “Malpractice”, and Richard E Grant.
As a dedicated fan, I’d like to share that “Suspect” is my new obsession, drawing inspiration from the critically acclaimed Danish crime series, “Forhøret” or “Face to Face,” penned by Christoffer Boe. This gripping noir show originally debuted in 2019 and has now spanned an impressive three seasons.
The British version of Channel 4’s crime drama has recently been added to Netflix’s collection of television shows, joining several others that have been recently introduced.
Actress Julie Hesmondhalgh, known for her roles in “Happy Valley” and “Coronation Street,” has been gaining attention for her ITV series “The Trouble with Maggie Cole.” This show, which also features Dawn French, has recently become popular on a streaming service. Meanwhile, the drama “Cleaning Up,” starring Sheridan Smith and highly acclaimed by Rotten Tomatoes, has seen an increase in views following its addition to the platform back in April.
In 2018, the BBC period drama titled “The Woman in White,” featuring Ben Hardy, was initially broadcasted. This year, it reappeared on streaming platforms like Netflix, making its way into their Top 10 list.
The second series of the show titled “Suspect,” featuring both familiar and fresh faces among its actors, has just premiered on Channel 4.
As the season resumed, it continued exactly where it ended last time; Anne-Marie Duff, reprising her role as Dr Susannah Newman, embarked on an urgent mission to locate a self-proclaimed serial killer before he could commit another murder.
In addition, Ben Miller reappeared in season two of the series, and joining the cast as new characters were Dominic Cooper, Eddie Marsan, and Nicholas Pinnock.
There’s no word yet on whether Suspect season two will also make its way onto Netflix.
