James Nesbitt’s new Harlan Coben thriller with “deep secrets” confirms release date in tense trailer

The new Netflix thriller, Run Away, starring James Nesbitt and Ruth Jones, will premiere soon! A trailer has just been released, and the series is based on a novel by bestselling author Harlan Coben, making it a perfect holiday watch.

The show features James Nesbitt as Simon Greene, a man who appears to have it all – a successful career and a happy family. But his life is thrown into chaos when his daughter, Paige (played by Ellie de Lange), runs away.

I’m really hooked by the premise of this movie! It starts with a dad finally finding his daughter – she’s been struggling, and he finds her at a really low point in a park. He’s just trying to bring her home, but it quickly turns out she’s with someone, and things go south fast. Apparently, a disagreement turns incredibly violent, and I’m already on the edge of my seat!

What to Read Next

After the tragic event, Simon feels the loss of his daughter as intensely as before. His desperate search for her leads him into a shadowy and perilous world, uncovering hidden truths that threaten to destroy his family.

Written by Danny Brocklehurst, who frequently works with Harlan Coben, Run Away will premiere on Netflix on January 1, 2026. All eight episodes will be available to stream at once.

Okay, so the new trailer starts with Elena – played by Jones, of course – asking Simon where Paige is. It’s pretty intense because Simon has to tell her Paige’s gone missing! Then, he actually sees her busking in a park, which is a relief, but when he tries to reach her, she runs away from him. It’s a really frustrating scene, honestly!

When his daughter’s boyfriend is murdered, Simon quickly becomes involved in the investigation, and Elena begins to suspect Simon himself might be involved. The story explores the lengths Simon will go to protect his family.

The series will also star Minnie Driver, Alfred Enoch, Lucian Msamati, Jon Pointing, Tracy-Ann Oberman, Annette Badland, and Ingrid Oliver, joining the previously announced main cast.

Run Away isn’t Richard Armitage’s first time adapting Harlan Coben’s work – he previously starred in Netflix’s Stay Close and Missing You.

Run Away will stream on Netflix from 1 January 2026.
