Netflix has given fans a first look at its new thriller, *Run Away*, starring James Nesbitt. The series, which is being called captivating and essential viewing, will continue Harlan Coben’s tradition of launching a new mystery each January, following hits like *Missing You* and *Fool Me Once*. *Run Away* is scheduled to premiere on January 1, 2026.
The eight-episode series follows Simon Greene (Nesbitt) as his seemingly ideal family life falls apart when his teenage daughter, Paige, runs away. The situation worsens when he discovers her struggling with drug use in a public park, according to the show’s description.
He’s overjoyed to finally be bringing his daughter home, but he soon discovers she’s not by herself. A disagreement quickly turns dangerous, leading to a shocking act of violence.
What to Read Next
Man, after everything that just happened, it hit me like a ton of bricks – I lost my daughter all over again. Now I’m diving headfirst into this really messed up underworld, desperately trying to find her. But what I’m uncovering… it’s not just dangerous, it could completely destroy what’s left of my family. It’s a dark road, and I’m not sure if I’m ready for what I’ll find.
The initial photos show the ups and downs of the Greene family’s struggles, starting with a cheerful picture of Simon and Ingrid (Minnie Driver) and then hinting at the conflicts to come.
Ruth Jones, known for her role in *Gavin & Stacey*, appears in the new series as Elena Ravenscroft, with Alfred Enoch and Lucian Msamati (*Gangs of London*) also starring.
Before filming began, Harlan Coben expressed his excitement about the actors involved, calling the cast – which includes Jimmy Nesbitt, Ruth Jones, Alfred Enoch, Lucian Msamati, and Minnie Driver – exceptionally talented. He said he was eager to start production.
Danny Brocklehurst is the main writer for this adaptation of Harlan Coben’s story, which has been moved from the United States to the United Kingdom. Filming is happening in and around Manchester and the wider North West England area.
These new photos were released shortly before Harlan Coben’s latest series, *Lazarus*, premieres. The show stars Sam Claflin, known for *Peaky Blinders*, as Joel Lazarus, a man dealing with loss.
Joel comes home to deal with the recent and tragic suicide of his father, Dr. Jonathan Lazarus. Soon after, he starts experiencing strange and unsettling events.
Unlike most of Harlan Coben’s shows, which are based on his novels, *Lazarus* was written specifically for television as an original story. Coben told *Radio Times* that he envisioned the series as a visually-driven “ghost story” and considered writing it directly as a TV show rather than a novel.
Run Away will debut 1 January 2026 on Netflix.
