James Morrison has found happiness with ‘adventurer’ girlfriend Mariel Jones following the tragic death of his estranged wife Gill Catchpole

Singer James Morrison has found love with girlfriend Mariel Jones.

The singer behind the hit song “Broken Strings,” who is 41 years old, is happily dating again after the sad passing of his wife, Gill Catchpole, in January 2024.

Gill is the mother of his two daughters, Elsie, 16 and Ada Rose, six.

Mariel, who describes herself as an adventurer, has been posting photos with James since July of last year. They were seen sharing a passionate kiss in Rome during a romantic getaway just two months ago.

They’ve documented their travels with photos from Turkey, shared affectionate moments holding hands in the Azores, and enjoyed cozy times together in Sicily.

Mariel and James first appeared to be together on Instagram last July, in a photo from the Beat-Herder Festival in Lancashire where they were embracing.

James’ daughter, Elsie, appears to fully approve of the relationship, often sharing supportive and affectionate comments on Mariel’s Instagram posts and even appearing with her in photos.

Oh my gosh, you guys, Mariel just posted the cutest picture with Elsie! It was of them together, and she captioned it ‘Always in it together’! And Elsie *replied* with ‘I love you’! Seriously, my heart melted. They’re just… everything. I knew they had something special, and seeing that exchange just confirms it! I’m obsessed with their connection!

James had not been in a relationship with Gill for some time when she passed away.

A 45-year-old café owner and caterer from Gloucestershire tragically took their own life after a long struggle with PTSD and post-natal depression.

She and James met when they were aged 17 and she was the muse for many of his songs. 

In the summer of 2023, people noticed she wasn’t wearing her wedding ring, and her Facebook profile listed her as single.

I just can’t stop thinking about Gill. She’d been so open about everything she’d been through – all the highs and lows, the pain she’d suffered. It broke my heart to hear, and now it’s just… devastating. She was even house-hunting in Whitminster, trying to build a new life for herself, just before everything happened. It feels so unfair that she didn’t get the chance.

She had been suffering with health problems in recent years.

She passed away fourteen months after receiving a kidney transplant that, while life-saving, had left her very weak. This is the fourth personal tragedy Prime Minister Morrison has experienced in recent years.

James experienced periods of inactivity between successful songs, and he’s openly discussed the sadness he felt after losing his father, brother, and nephew – tragedies that occurred after he first gained fame with his song ‘You Give Me Something’.

James and his family were ‘devastated’ by Gill’s death. 

In late 2021, Gill received a kidney transplant. She was surprised to learn her original kidney was functioning at only 35 percent.

In a post from November 2023, she reflected on how much things had changed in a year. A year prior, she was undergoing a kidney transplant, and now, despite facing challenges and heartache, she’s successfully launched her own business.

I honestly didn’t expect any of this at the beginning of the year. If you’re going through a tough time, I want you to know from personal experience that things really do improve.

I’m incredibly grateful for my family and friends. They’ve truly been my rocks, helping me put myself back together time and time again. They know exactly what they’ve done, and I feel so blessed to have them in my life today.

Scott Morrison said he was heartbroken about his relationship with Annabelle Gill, which he described as a ‘fairytale’ that started when they were both teenagers. Gill moved in with her boyfriend as a houseguest at Morrison’s mother’s home, and that’s where their romance began.

The actor recently shared details about his relationship with Gill, explaining on the White Wine Question Time podcast that she initially lived with her then-boyfriend in his mother’s home as a tenant.

Elsie’s birth was complicated by the umbilical cord being wrapped around her neck. As a result, her mother, Ms. Catchpole, had to stay in the hospital for a week and a half to recover.

James, who was born prematurely and battled severe whooping cough as an infant, described his partner as invaluable, recognizing everything she’d gone through for their children.
