James McAvoy’s Edinburgh-set black comedy is now on Netflix

As a seasoned gamer with a knack for dark comedies and psychological thrillers, I can’t help but feel excited about the arrival of “Filth” on Netflix UK and Ireland. With my background in navigating complex narratives and unraveling the twisted minds of characters like Bruce Robertson, played masterfully by James McAvoy, this film seems tailor-made for my taste.

The dark comedy/psychological thriller starring James McAvoy, titled “Filth,” from the year 2013, is now available on Netflix in both the United Kingdom and Ireland.

According to Irvine Welsh’s book with the same title, this movie is set in Edinburgh and focuses on Detective Sergeant Bruce Robertson, portrayed by McAvoy. He’s investigating a murder that he believes will lead to a significant promotion for himself as it offers an opportunity for advancement in his career.

Regrettably, his mental state is precarious due to numerous psychological challenges, and as he investigates further, his grasp on what’s real seems to weaken. Disclosing additional details might spoil the story.

Apart from McAvoy, the movie features Jim Broadbent (from Bridget Jones), Shirley Henderson (also from Bridget Jones), Jamie Bell (known for All of Us Strangers), Eddie Marsan (famous for Back to Black), Martin Compston (a regular on Line of Duty), Iain De Caestecker (recognized from Agents of SHIELD), Joanne Froggat (well-known from Downton Abbey), John Sessions (popular in Belfast), and Imogen Poots (who played a role in The Father).

McAvoy recently appeared in the psychological horror “Speak No Evil,” which is an English adaptation of a 2022 Danish movie.

In a conversation with Digital Spy, the actor explained why this adaptation altered the original’s conclusion.

He expressed his belief that our movie could only have this conclusion, and it’s the only fitting option for our film.

While one version or movie might be effective in its own right, it’s important to note that they serve slightly different purposes and aim to evoke different responses from the viewers. Both are excellent, but each has a unique approach.

Previously, it became known that McAvoy was set to make his directorial bow next year, focusing on a movie revolving around two Scottish individuals feigning as an American hip-hop duo, allegedly pals with Eminem.

Filth is now available for Netflix UK and Ireland subscribers to stream.
