James Haskell admits what REALLY caused his marriage with Chloe Madeley to break down after ‘dark and painful’ final year – and reveals the truth about new romance rumours: RICHARD EDEN

James Haskell’s wife, Chloe Madeley, described their final year of marriage as ‘dark and painful’.

Currently, the ex-England rugby player has confessed that his fondness for drinking played a role in the decline of their union.

Haskell states that if he had invested as much effort into his marriage as he did with Guinness, he likely would not be divorced at this point.

The ex-flanker, aged 40, maintains a tight bond with Mike Tindall, co-host of The Good, The Bad and The Rugby podcast, who is wedded to Zara, the daughter of Princess Anne.

In 2023, Haskell and Chloe, aged 37, who is the daughter of TV personalities Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan, ended their five-year marriage. At that point, their child, Bodhi, was only a year old.

At the Pub in the Park event held in west London, Haskell shares that his connection with Chloe is significantly improved these days.

He shares with me that sometimes things may not go as planned in life, but his affection for his daughter and Chloe is immense. He emphasizes that it’s a collaborative effort.

He notes: ‘Often, we overlook the fact that when a marriage ends, it’s primarily about the children. Chloe and I make excellent co-parents. Our utmost concern is always for Bodhi.’

During the three-day touring food and music festival, he made an appearance that was touched by sadness, as his father, Jonathan, had passed away over the weekend following a long battle with illness.

Haskell expresses, ‘We’ve suffered a devastating loss in our family. It’s an incredibly emotional and challenging period for us. He was truly exceptional. Whenever I suggested taking a day off, he would prefer that I continued working instead.’

Currently, Haskell confirms that he’s no longer in a relationship, as he was dating advertising executive Helen Barclay earlier this year.

He mentions that he’s not actively dating because other things are currently more important to him. Right now, his attention is split between spending time with his father before he leaves, focusing on work, and being a dedicated parent. He expresses contentment and satisfaction with his current state of life.

Lipkin’s Georgina is ‘perfect’ to him

Simon Lipkin has received numerous praises, along with an Olivier Award nomination, for his lively portrayal of Fagin in the West End’s musical adaptation of Oliver!

But he says his greatest coup was winning the heart of his fiancee, Georgina Castle, 32.

Despite Andrew Castle’s daughter agreeing to marry him last year, Lipkin, aged 39, confesses he’s puzzled by his encounter with the actress (depicted), whom he crossed paths with during the staging of Elf, where they both performed.

‘She’s perfect – I’m punching [above my weight],’ he says.

Instead of a gallery of Adonises, she’s had dates with men who were millionaires and model material with abs to die for – until an unexpected, plump young man appeared.

As the groundbreaking first female artistic director at London’s Royal Court Theatre, Vicky Featherstone, aged 58, exerts significant influence. However, even her powerful presence couldn’t prevent a moment of confusion among the cast during one performance.

The actress describes herself as both a prim Edinburgh lady and a dancer in a nightclub. She remembers an incident during one of our initial performances where she confused her roles and appeared as a stripper instead of the Edinburgh character. Unfortunately, there wasn’t anything that could be done to rectify the situation.

Sarah’s invite must be lost in the post!

It came as a shock to many influential individuals in politics and media when they received invitations for a summer gathering hosted by Samantha Cameron’s sister, Emily Sheffield, over the weekend. This unexpected event has stirred curiosity among these prominent figures.

Coincidentally, the event for Sarah Vine’s book launch, titled “How Not To Be A Political Wife,” took place simultaneously with a celebration. Many attendees were fortunate enough to be invited to both events.

It’s an interesting coincidence, some people argue, that my respected colleague Sarah claims she was not invited to the Camerons’ event, despite having been a longtime friend. Her book reveals how this occurred after her husband, Michael Gove, supported Brexit. Sarah humorously suggests that perhaps her invitation got misplaced in the mail during the Sheffield gathering.

Vinnie’s gate plans get the red card

It’s a brave man, or woman, who says no to footballer-turned-Hollywood-hardman Vinnie Jones.

However, it was exactly this scenario that unfolded as the actor, aged 60, endeavored to construct new entrance gates for his property in West Sussex.

The black metal barrier required a planning permit as the 18th-century home, frequently shown on TV’s Vinnie Jones In the Country, holds a Grade II listing.

But the South Downs National Park Authority criticised the ‘uncharacteristic urban feature’.

Initially, Planning Officer Beverley Stubbington suggested that the plans should be denied. However, these plans were later abandoned by Jones.

Keira’s companies making her millions

In light of the statement made by Keira Knightley in 2014 about setting an annual salary of £30,000 for herself to maintain connections with her less wealthy friends, it might be appropriate for her to consider increasing this amount as a raise.

The wealth stored in the treasure chest belonging to the actress from Pirates of the Caribbean has surged. Recent financial reports reveal a profit of approximately £7.1 million for her 40-year-old firm, Ponder Rights, with an additional £411,000 earned in 2024. These earnings are joined by £9.7 million in KCK Boo, a performing arts company, and £7.8 million worth of properties held in Charlotte Road, a nominee company. Combined, this amounts to nearly £25 million.

Keira expressed her thriftiness by saying, ‘Maintaining an extravagant lifestyle limits your social circle to those who share the same lifestyle, creating a sense of isolation.’

Felicity to reunite with Stoppard

Sir Tom Stoppard’s ex-wife, Miriam, has confessed that the playwright’s affair with The Good Life star Felicity Kendal plunged her into three years of mourning.

Now, Ms. Kendal and the Academy Award-winning actor are set to collaborate once more after a gap of 27 years. The actress, now 78 years old, is scheduled to appear in Sir Tom’s play “Indian Ink” at the Hampstead Theatre in London. She will be portraying a role distinct from the one she played in the 1990s.

For two decades, Miriam had been in a marriage with Sir Thomas, who is 87 years old. However, during this period, Sir Thomas developed feelings for another woman, his leading actress. It’s important to note that at the same time, Ms. Kendal was married to the American theatre director, Michael Rudman. As of now, Sir Thomas has tied the knot with Sabrina Guinness, a former wife of King Charles.
