James Gunn's previous Superman update hints filming might be nearly over now

As a devoted DC Universe fan, I am thrilled to pieces with the latest update from writer-director James Gunn regarding his upcoming film, “Superman.” Just one week ago, Gunn took to social media via Threads to share that filming had wrapped up in Cleveland, Ohio. He even went on to express his heartfelt gratitude to the city and its background actors for reminding him of why he loves making movies.

According to Deadline, James Gunn shared an update on July 17 about his Superman film. He announced that filming had been completed in Cleveland, Ohio, and added that they were making good progress, with things nearly finished.

The head of DC Studios took to Instagram’s Threads feature to publicly thank the city in a heartfelt message.

Gunn continued to express gratitude towards the unsung heroes in his subsequent Thread posts, reminding him of his affection for filmmaking. In a following letter posted on the same platform, he explained that while filming in Cleveland has come to an end, there are still several weeks left for shooting the movie. He stated: “The production in Cleveland is completed, but we’ve got more weeks ahead for filming.”

We are not done shooting. Still a couple weeks left. Just done shooting in Cleveland. And yeah, it’s a long shoot… but we’re getting close!!

Superman should be done filming in a week or two!

As a passionate gamer and avid follower of the latest DC movie news, I can’t help but get excited about the recent announcement made by James Gunn on July 17. He mentioned that filming could be completed as soon as one week from that date, which would put the wrap up around July 31. While “a couple weeks” was what he explicitly stated, I believe we can safely assume production will finish before August begins. This is fantastic news for us DC fans who have been eagerly anticipating more glimpses of James Gunn’s take on Superman.

Production of the DCU’s Superman movie started on February 29, 2024. This marks around five months in filming. A trailer for “Superman” (previously known as “Superman: Legacy”) may still be some time coming. However, this milestone signifies progress for the initial installment in the DCU. We can only hope that once production wraps up, director Gunn will give us a sneak peek behind the scenes. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Featuring David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, María Gabriela de Faría, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, Sean Gunn, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Isabel Merced, and Nathan Fillion, the new film titled “Superman” is scheduled for release in cinemas on July 11, 2025. Make sure to save the date as it’s approaching quickly!
