James Gunn's DC Universe reportedly casts major Justice League member

As a fan with a soft spot for DC Comics and a knack for appreciating exceptional acting performances, I can’t help but feel my heart racing at the prospect of Kyle Chandler potentially joining the DC Universe as Hal Jordan. With his Emmy-winning pedigree and an impressive portfolio that ranges from small screen dramas like “Friday Night Lights” to blockbuster movies such as the MonsterVerse films, it’s clear that this man has the chops to bring the iconic Green Lantern to life in a way that will leave audiences spellbound.

There’s a major shakeup at DC. After discontinuing the DC Extended Universe, DC Studios is preparing to debut a completely new DC Universe within the next year. With so many DC-related developments in one place, you can see how significant things are being set in motion. The dynamic duo of James Gunn and Peter Safran at the helm of DC Studios are poised to bring about these changes.

The DC Universe will start its new journey towards the end of this year, first with the debut of the animated series “Creature Commandos”. Following that, the live-action segment will commence next summer with James Gunn’s version of “Superman”. Afterwards, “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” is scheduled for release in 2026.

Indeed, everything seems to be falling into place for the upcoming DC film universe, with another project in the works that will continue the narrative on television screens. This project appears set to focus on one of the Justice League‘s most recognized characters, and it seems as though an actor has been chosen to portray this hero.

Kyle Chandler in talks to play Hal Jordan in HBO’s Lanterns series

According to Deadline’s report, Kyle Chandler is in negotiations for a role in the upcoming DC series “Lanterns.” If he accepts, he will portray the iconic DC Comics character Hal Jordan, who has been the subject of much recent speculation regarding casting choices since other actors linked to the part declined.

Previous rumors indicated that Josh Brolin and Matthew McConaughey were strongly considered for the main part, but neither actor decided to pursue it. Consequently, the casting process persisted until more recently when Chandler became a contender.

Reports indicate that the production is considering an experienced actor for the role of Hal Jordan, as the storyline features a unique relationship between characters of varying age groups. This also implies that another well-known Green Lantern character will be part of the plot.

Indeed, the narrative unfolds as an extraterrestrial whodunit whereby a pair of Green Lantern Corps officers find themselves embroiled in events on Earth following an enigmatic demise that compels them to unravel the mystery. The officers at play are none other than Hal Jordan and John Stewart, with Jordan boasting more years under his belt as a Lantern. In this tale, Stewart takes on the role of the greenhorn, embarking on his journey in the Green Lantern Corps and learning the ins and outs from Jordan. At present, the actor selected for this part remains undecided.

The concept of Lanterns has roots in the former Warner Bros. management, as they were working on a Green Lantern series for their Max – HBO Max streaming service that focused on various Lantern characters. However, with the change in leadership, this project was transformed into its current form.

Hal Jordan is a significant element in the storied history of DC Comics, being one of the most renowned, or arguably the most iconic, characters to bear the Green Lantern title. He was depicted by Ryan Reynolds in the well-known 2011 film “Green Lantern,” and also received nods in The CW’s Arrowverse. It is eagerly anticipated that Chandler will contribute to this legacy with his role in “Lanterns.

The award-winning actor is primarily recognized for his performance in Friday Night Lights (which garnered him this prestigious accolade), yet he boasts a longstanding career in both television and film. He has portrayed Dr. Mark Russell in the MonsterVerse films Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong, and Detective John Rayburn in the Netflix series Bloodline.

I’m crossing my fingers for a fruitful negotiation and his swift inclusion into the DC Universe family. It’d be thrilling to add another Justice League character, especially one as talented as Chandler, to the DCU roster.
